Opta: Milan ‘85%’ certain of Champions League qualification despite collapse

AC Milan have lost three of their last four games, but according to Opta’s simulations, they still have a 85% chance of finishing in the top four this season.

The last few weeks have certainly been very tough for the Rossoneri and Massimiliano Allegri. Just a month ago, they were celebrating the win against Inter in the Derby della Madonnina, which inevitably made them dream about the Scudetto.

Since then, however, they have won just one game (3-2 against Torino), losing the other three. Juventus are now just three points behind Milan and Como could move within two points tonight, which would definitely put top spot at risk.

Still in Milan’s hands

According to Opta’s predicted outcome for Serie A, which is based on simulations, Milan still have a 85% chance of finishing in the top four and thus securing a spot in the Champions League. Meanwhile, there is 11% risk of qualifying for the Europa League instead (i.e. 5th place).

It should be noted that the UCL chance stood at 90% last night, so the Udinese defeat has contributed to a decrease, but the feeling is that we could soon be looking at an even lower figure. The Verona game will be decisive in that sense, as a loss there would definitely confirm the collapse.

      1. Everyone should celebrate instead. We’ve gathered 3 points out of 12 possible lately. If that doesn’t warrant for a party I don’t know what would! No need to complain. Things couldn’t be better, right? Allegri-ball at its finest. Oh yes. Every fan loves every minute of it. Good times. Goooood times.
