Two important signals arrived yesterday regarding the potential renewal of Rafael Leao with AC Milan, and it seems to be more positive.
Leao is currently at the World Cup where he is trying to be a protagonist with Portugal, while his future at Milan continues to attract media headlines regarding the simple question of whether or not he will extend his current contract expiring in June 2024.
MilanNews speaks of the ‘two clues’ that arrived on the issue yesterday. Firstly, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported the words of the winger from his retreat with the Portuguese national team.
“I’m happy, proud, now I have to stay focused on the World Cup, then I’ll talk to Milan as soon as I get back. Do I want to sign the contract? Even before joining the national team we had a meeting with Maldini, it was positive, so when I get back to Milan we’ll talk well,” he said.
To this, the statements of Claudia Garcia – a Portuguese journalist who was the first to report Leao’s transfer from Lille to Milan – must be added.
“I believe that in the end Rafa Leao will renew with Milan. From the information I have, they are going in this direction. It is true that there is a fine to pay, but they will find a solution,” she said.
They are words that seem to suggest that there is optimism and still plenty of room for discussion over Leao’s renewal. Milan have negotiated and will continue to negotiate more forcefully from January 2023 with the player’s father, his lawyer Dimvula and agent Jorge Mendes, also taking into consideration the fine issue with Sporting CP.
Optimism??? He couldn’t even give a simple answer to “Do I want to sign the contract?”-question. So read between the lines.
Not happening. Milan’s owners want a CL side on a League 1 budget. He will go, so will Bennacer and Theo (eventually). Start looking for replacements!
“Theo (eventually)”.
Of course. One-club players don’t exists anymore. Happens to every club though.
I have a feeling he will sign, he doesn’t strike me to be a non person like Calhanoglu or Kessie. We’ll see. He should get 7M easy at Milan, if they don’t offer that and Donnarumma was offered that money while Leao is realistically about x3 more valuable for the team and in transfer terms. If the offer isn’t there I would leave as well. It isn’t about being money hungry, but if you offer Leao the same as Origi or a similar half player, that is an insult.
