Ordine responds to Fonseca’s Scudetto claim with Scaroni and Ibrahimovic comparison

Italian journalist Franco Ordine has issued his response to the recent comments from Paulo Fonseca on Milan’s chances of winning the Serie A title this season.

Writing for Milan News (via Radio Rossonera), Ordine shares his thoughts on the criticism that many had for Fonseca after he showed what many took to be overconfidence and delusion over Milan’s chances of victory.

Inter stormed to the Serie A title last season and whilst Milan came second, they were never in the frame for the title. Changes have been made during the summer but the squad has hardly been overhauled.

Fonseca said that Milan’s objective is to fight for the title and win it, and Ordine explained that if he had gone in the other direction and said that Milan should be aiming to finish in the top four, then he would have got just as much criticism.

“As soon as Fonseca spoke about the Scudetto, the critics immediately started to jump in, shouting ‘but where does he want to go?’. If Fonseca had done as Scaroni did a few years ago, that is, saying that the important thing is to get into the top four, then others would have jumped on the scene, ready to hang him,” Ordine explained.

He then explained further that Fonseca is saying this to show that he has high ambitions with Milan, rather than to say he has the best squad in the league. He used the example of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s rhetoric since returning to the club of Milan being on top.

“If Fonseca speaks like this it is not because he is convinced that he has the strongest team, but because he supports the mentality of Ibrahimovic who repeatedly says that he has returned to the helm of the club to win,” he said.

  1. No way we can challenge Inter for the Scudetto with this team that has consistently got worse year by year since winning the title.

We went from Giroud a proven winner and goal scorer to Morata. We never replaced Kessie, we have no Tonali. Ibra was a real leader and inspiring figure not the yes man he has become nowadays. Leao and Tomori have a regression and were way better back then, probably should also include Mike here. Inter looks stronger than that year. The only thing that stays the same is that we keep having a mediocre coach.

    1. This will not age well. We won Scudetto without Ibra, it was Giroud who led the line. And I know we all love Tonali but RLC is better and it’s not even debatable. We were challenging for the Scudetto until we were ravaged by injuries and Pioli ball got stale.

      1. Oh that’s highly debatable my friend. First off they play different positions. And if RLC is indeed better why are we chasing Fofana or similar type player? It’s where Tonali was playing, no?

        1. RLC and Tonali both played as box to box in double pivot. We are looking for a midfielder because we want an upgrade on Pobega/Adli

          1. “We are looking for a midfielder because we want an upgrade on Pobega/Adli” LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂 ok bro if u say so.
RLC played CAM last year mostly, Tonali was a DM/pivot. Their stats and heat maps show this.

        2. Literally from an article just posted “The likely scenario would be one or both of Tommaso Pobega and Yacine Adli leaving the club, but neither appear very close to departing right now.”
You get a 10/10 for confidence but 1/10 for making sense.

      2. RLC would have wet dreams reaching the form and grit Tonali showed in the Scudetto year. Please, quit weed.

And it is not that Tonali is a world beater, RLC is an average player in the other hand

        1. Just wow. I guess I shouldn’t believe my eyes. Stop with the fan boy nonsense. I love Tonali too but RLC bulldozed him when we played Chelsea in 2022. It’s all on tape man, no debate necessary.

    2. Maybe we can, maybe we can’t. Smart money is on can’t. But football is unpredictable. Maybe inter will have an injury crisis.

Also the last few seasons the club that won had a nasty form drop the next season. Anything can happen

    3. Inter are not winning the scudetto two seasons in a row. They are never repeating last season run. I’m worried more about Juve and Napoli

    1. Sometimes I wonder, if Fonseca answer that his objective is top 4, people would still be critical of him anyway for the lack of ambition

    2. Exactly. What else should he say?

      – were aiming for second place and hope the winner is not Inter.

Whatever answer he would say would be wrong, it is a trick question and he took the bait.

  2. We can, inter never win 2 scudeto in a row, Juve looks like weaker than us, and Napoli, are they stronger than us? Come on, we have to trust our team, we all know that our team looks better than last year. If with pioli we finished 2nd with Fonseca we should aim ro reach better than pioli did.

    1. Why do you think Juventus looks weaker than us? To me they look way stronger.

I’ll start: I believe Motta is a better manager, they have more Gritt, great signings this summer. Fonseca is good, but I doubt he is good enough. likewise with Moratta, and mind you I like him a lot, and finally and most importantly, we have no f*cling DM.

      1. Maybe cuz Juve got shellacked by FC Nürnberg and drew Brest in pre season and we bested Man City and Real Madrid? It’s only preseason true, but if we’re gonna make predictions based on these results what have you seen so far that makes Juve loom stronger with Mott than we do with Fonseca?
