AC Milan owners RedBird are unwilling to sanction additional money for investments in January, following what was a very poor January mercato this year.
Milan have had a very strong start to the season, sitting in first place with 28 points to their name. However, in order to remain competitive for the rest of the campaign, it’s clear that reinforcements will be needed in January.
A centre-back is needed given the switch to a three-man backline, while the No.9 position remains a great dilemma, with Christopher Nkunku even linked with an exit. In short, the fans and above all Massimiliano Allegri have every right to ask for movement next month.
However, as reported by Franco Ordine for Il Giornale (via Il Garante), RedBird are unwilling to sanction any additional spending in January. The main reason behind this is that the last time they did, i.e. in January this year, the outcome wasn’t exactly super positive.
Subsequently, if the report is true, Igli Tare and co will have to resort to low-cost opportunities on the mercato. Alternatively, they could make a big sale to find their signings. Santiago Gimenez has been named as a potential player to sacrifice, even if he’s very keen on staying at the club.

Do you see that? Redbird is not spending more when the team (just ranking) currently is doing well compared to previously. And spending a lot more when team is doing bad compared to a season before.
He’s like doing a business, keep fans intact, but no serious means to be the top spot of the league. Not really for sporting
How about you have good scouts. I, an old guy who watches football regularly and have seen the two ELP players said they weren’t any good. Besides his agent being the agent for the manager, Felix has been a bust. Is he just playing in Sunday leagues now? Walker was never a very technical player. He depended on speed and strength. Lost two steps to age. Couldn’t cross the ball. I knew nothing about Gimenez so didn’t have an opinion. Does ACM have scouts they can trust?
I don’t like to make this type of comment… But this is pure idiocy. You’re just “an old guy who watches football regularly”. You have 0 inclination as to what actual scouts have to look for. You’re not looking at the player’s individual skill, “aura” or personality among teammates and opponents. You don’t see anything else these scouted players do unless it’s reported on in the media, or you’re watching a pro match. You seriously have 0 idea what you’re talking about. You don’t understand the nuances between different nationalities and leagues that can be similar in certain ways. This is a classic ego trip. “I watch football so I know more than most people because I’m old and am entitled.” How about you provide a detailed scouting report on even 3 prospects for Milan. How about only 2 properly detailed scouting reports? You have no idea what is required for the job, yet you still think you’d be better. If your issue was with the fact that Milan is comfortably 2nd in the table right now and the ownership isn’t providing money, despite this current season’s success, then you might have a leg to stand on. People need to stop pretending to be specialists at something just because of their age specifically.
Their failure in the transfer market speaks loudly. If the scouts think these players are good, there’s a problem. Results matter unless you’re going to defend money being spent on Walker or Felix, both winter transfers. Like I said, I had no opinion on Gimenez as I never say him play. Sadly, the old guy on the couch was right.
we have furlani the accountant and moncada, who knows what he’s doing
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And that not all, folks!
Tare, Ibra & Со have thrown 90 mln 🤡
for El Stupido + Nkunku + El Bidone Gimenez…
Utter trash… hopefully in January some EPL club will pick these pseudo players….
I was hopeful that with a few new players Milan just might be able to get a win against at least one of Serie A’s top teams like Napoli, Inter, Roma, Lazio? Wow this news is really bothering me.
I’m not ready to take any report on face value. No sources mentioned and no one else reporting it. Sounds like click bait to me. When January rolls around and if no one is signed, I’ll apologize then.😀
If that’s the case then sell Gimenez and Nkunku then buy Mateta to replace them. Recall Musah from Atalanta because he can play RWB and he did well there last season under Fonseca.
Musah is more suited for a RWB role because he has the stamina to cover the wings and with Tomori behind he will be able to recover defensively due to both of them being fast players.
As for a CB get Coppola on loan with option to buy.
This was by far the most reasonable post made so far that actually has to deal with other players who aren’t currently at Milan.
Are you really a fan? Allegri doesnt like Musah’s attitude
Mateta still has over a year left in his contract, they arent desperate to sell him, literally rejected 50m bid in the summer, its going to be 60m+ now, we arent some EPL club that we can just drop that
Coppola barely has any experience, wtf will we do with him ? Cheer because he’s Italian? you arent even Italian, why do you care so much about nationality?
“ Allegri doesnt like Musah’s attitude”? 🤣🤣 insider info. But made up
In the last few seasons milan kept bringing some random players who don’t even suit to the manager needs.
Some of them were outcast at their previous club. Scout department really need overhaul here..
If they gonna sell one forward in january to get more of a “box” player, make it Nkunku. We already got two like him in Pulisic and Leao.
The signing of Nkunku in the summer made no sense, and now it makes alot more sense to sell him rather then Gimenez if they need to raise funds for a forward with different characteristics.
-IF- we could get Mateta by selling Nkunku its a no brainer, no matter if its in january or in the coming summer.
But I wouldnt be surprised if we end up with someone like Fullkrug instead…
And this is how Cardinale wants Milan to be top in Europe. Stop think that Milan fans are stupid! we all know what is your intention, and your intentions is not, what is good for the club, but to you and your investors pocket!!!!!
If last Winter is the reason for not spending this Winter then Redbird should sell the club ASAP. Last Winter Milan was not good because of,
1. Milan didn’t have a Sporting director
2. Brought Fonseca instead of De Zerbi
3. Awful summer mercato
4. Panic mercato in the winter because of the awful summer mercato were they wanted get rid of the players they brought in the summer.
5. Brought Conceicao in the Winter so Redbird basically started with Budget Guardiola in the Summer and brought budget Simeone in the Winter.
6. Redbird brought 5 players and if I remember correct 3 of them were in the last day of the Mercato.
7. Redbird have never had a great mercato plan. Ever since they bought the club their mercato strategies have been all over the place.
8. Whole last season was a flop season starting with Redbird and their unwilling to adjust to Italian football and AC Milan.
9. This season Tare got rid of Redshits deadwood and brought over 150 million Euro and created a team for Serie A to challenge for the top 4 spots and the results have been good but the biggest problem have been that the team have been thin and investment in the Winter is crucial if Milan want to secure the top 4 and challenge for the scudetto.
Couple of injuries and a winless streak 4-5 games can put Top 4 in jeopardy. If Gerry Cheapinale see the league standing then he would see it.
10. The best thing Redbird can do is to give Tare and Allegri what they want.
I would sell Fofana and RLC and buy Ederson from Atalanta. Give them Musah+ Cash.
I would invest in one of Palestra, Bellanova or Kayode.
I would not spend big in a striker in the Winter but bring back Camarda and he would get game time by rotating with Gimenez. Then when top 4 is secure and if Gimenez have not adjusted to be the nr 9 the fans and the club hope he would be then I would sell him and spend big on striker with experience and physically strong and having goal scoring record which is in his Prime or entering his Prime.
