Ordine: Why Milan must find replacement for Maldini and Massara ‘quickly’

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are no longer employed by AC Milan, now run by an ‘integrated working group’ instead. Franco Ordine believes the club must act fast to find a replacement.

Yes, because it seems Milan will not replace Maldini and Massara with two directors, but rather just one sporting director. François-Joseph Modesto, as we were first to report, is one of the options for the role.

As highlighted by Franco Ordine in his latest editorial for MilanNews, time is of the essence for Milan as finding a replacement quickly would show competence. Indeed, it would make the club look prepared for the scenario.

“Why do I consider ‘club manager’ to be a key role? Very simple answer. In recent times, Maldini and Massara filled that space, they were at Milanello every day to discuss with Pioli, learn about the players’ problems, follow the training sessions and then report back to the ownership.

“Given that until today, also with the negative response from Ibra, there has been no indication, it’s a sign that the search continues. There is time, of course, but doing it quickly would make it clear that there are capable people making the decisions,” he writes.

It remains to be seen what will happen, especially since CEO Giorgio Furlani and Chief Scout Geoffrey Moncada are now dealing with the mercato themselves. Moncada will continue to do so even when a sporting director arrives, but Furlani also has other responsibilities to focus on.
