CM: Origi ready for a new adventure at Milan – how he became ‘a Liverpool legend’

AC Milan will welcome Divock Origi as their first signing of the summer during the week, and they are getting a player with a knack of stepping up for the big occasions.

Calciomercato.com recall how Origi did not see as much playing time as the other forwards during his time under Jurgen Klopp and he was not a regular starter, but he managed to enter the history books at Liverpool and will forever be in the memory of the fans.

He scored the goal to make 4-0 against Barcelona in the second leg of the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals thus completing an incredible comeback, one of the best ever in the 130 years of Liverpool’s history.

He scored six goals in derbies against Everton over the years, while perhaps his most important contribution was the one in the 2019 UCL final when he doubled the advantage against Spurs to essentially put the game beyond doubt and win number six for the Reds.

Klopp said goodbye to the Belgian with a ringing endorsement: “For me, he will always be a Liverpool legend and it was a joy to work with him. He is one of the most important players he has ever had. Wherever he goes, he will be 100% successful. It will be a difficult time when he leaves. He is a legend of Liverpool, without a doubt.”

Now, he will sign a four-year contract worth €4m net per season and he will join up with a familiar environment given his compatriot Alexis Saelemaekers awaits while Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan and Renato Sanches (if he signs) come from Lille.
