Paolo Maldini praises son Daniel after Italy call-up: “It is not easy to carry this surname”

Paolo Maldini has praised his son Daniel Maldini for working hard and earning the opportunity to follow in his footsteps and play for the Italian national team.

After a series of loan spells, Milan made the decision to let Daniel depart on a permanent deal during the summer. He went there on a free transfer as per numerous sources, but there is a 50% resale clause in favour of the Rossoneri.

That particular clause might become quite significant, because there have been reports stating that Inter are keen on disrupting the fabric of the universe by putting a Maldini in a black and blue shirt. In the meantime, the playmaker is shining for Monza and has earned an Italy call-up.

Milan have the right of first refusal which – combined with their resale clause – means that they can sign him back for half of what any interested team are prepared to say, and this could disrupt the Nerazzurri’s move.

Paolo Maldini spoke to Sky before kick-off in the UEFA Nations League match between Italy and Belgium last night, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Daniel has always worked hard and today he deserves this opportunity. He undoubtedly has a quality that is not common in kicking, in seeing the game and physically he has grown. It is not easy to carry this surname, he will have to be strong in this thing,” he said.
