Paqueta opens up about worthwhile but tough period at Milan: “I had no friends”

By Isak Möller -

Lucas Paqueta’s adventure at Milan never took off as the Brazilian failed to show his qualities, held back by the high expectations that came with his €38m price tag. Sold to Lyon last year, the midfielder is doing much better.

The Rossoneri were forced to sell him for €20m just one and a half year after signing him, resulting in a minor capital loss for them. Considering how Paqueta was performing, it was still an impressive deal by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara.

In an interview with Canal+, as cited by OneFootball, Paqueta opened up about his spell at Milan and the fact that he didn’t have any friends in the city. He also stated that he feels much better now, surrounded by friends in the team.

“I’m happier in Lyon. I want to do a good job. I hope to continue like this for several more years. What I experienced in Italy made me a better player. Here, I made friends, I had no friends, unfortunately, in Milan.

“It makes a difference because it is the Brazilian way of being. That’s the real Paquetá, the same as in Flamengo and that’s who I am,” he stated.

Although the Brazilian’s adventure in Milan ended in failure, he has surely learned a lot from being in such a big club, as he expressed above. Having said that, it couldn’t have been easy for him during lockdown and all.

  1. He and a few journalists mentioned a few times that the language and cultural differences hit Paqueta particularly hard. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Glad he’s happier in Lyon. Wishing him the best for his career.

  2. Very talented boy but like Balotelli didnt play because he is lazy. Mian wasted so much time for paqueta. Wish you the best
