CorSport: ‘Patience is over’ – Milan fans show anger after ruined birthday celebration

Yesterday seemed to be the perfect occasion for AC Milan to get their league campaign back on track, yet they fell flat once again.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Milan were celebrating 125 years of history in front of their fans and together with some of the most beloved legends of all time like Ruud Gullit, Marco Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Pippo Inzaghi and Clarence Seedorf.

All the conditions were there to give a jolt to the season, but Milan once again disappointed. The players left the field to a barrage of jeers and boos which made it clear that ‘patience is over’ after such a poor start in Serie A.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared on screen before the game and there were even some expressions of disapproval towards the Swede. When he returned as a player he helped the resurgence, yet as a director the feeling is that he has not really connected with the supporters.

The owner of the club Gerry Cardinale was not presence, an absence that has an impact. Outside San Siro, the Curva Sud Milano in fact displayed a banner towards the ownership, singing chants such as ‘These owners do not deserve us’ and ‘we are not Americans’.

In the meantime, however, the management are continuing on the current path. Ibrahimovic confirmed it before the game, stating: “We agree with Fonseca: the team must do more and we must push for it to do more.

“What he said in public he also said in private. If I were a player, I would react, because if the coach is not happy you have to do more.”

The problem is that the results are not good enough and Milan are now 14 points behind top spot, having fallen to eighth in the table after Bologna’s win against Fiorentina.

    1. Oh, absolutely! Things have really turned around since Maldini won the Scudetto. I mean, who needs a sporting director when you can just spend millions on players and hope for the best? And don’t even get me started on that world-class defense, midfield, and attack – stacked with top-tier talent on the bench. Clearly, everything is falling into place. It’s almost like we’re this close to becoming a European powerhouse again… just without the European results. And hey, who needs a coach with a trophy-laden resume when you’ve got someone who can totally turn things around, right?

      1. Fonseca has now managed to get rid of our entire Scudetto winning defence…

First he came for Kalulu and we said nothing.

Then he came for Calabria and we said nothing.

Then he came for Tomori and we said nothing.

And now he’s come for Theo….

  1. Sempre Milan are you ever going to write anything that is not gleaned from sources at least change it to provide your thoughts? See no criticism about Gerry and co this time!

  2. The only problem about this season gone so wrong is wholesale changes again in the summer. And when we reset we have to wait another 3yrs to see results.

    1. With the player turnover we have these days we’ll need to fill the entire stadium with former players for the 150th anniversary.

    2. The real problem is that the mercato was based buy on discount any player and any position and see what sticks. No targeted buys. We hand a solid core, all they needed to do is targeted buys . Instead they sold some of that core players and went shopping blindly. No vision. CARDINALE SHOT HIMSELF IN THE FOOT WHEM HE FIRED M&M. DESPITE THEIR FLAWS, THEY KNEW HOW TO BUILD A TEAM AND FOR CHEAP.

    1. There are many ways to make history. Cardinale chose the one where he’ll be remembered as the one who destroyed the scudetto-winning team and turned it into a relegation-battling one.

  3. FONSECA OUT!

What an embarrassing game last night. Awful to watch/stomach and very sad given the 125 years milestone. No Maldini too!
    Please go Fonseca.
Cardinale must apologise to Maldini and re-appoint him.
