Repubblica: Pavlovic impresses in Girona win – Zlatan convinced him to reject Fenerbahce

Strahinja Pavlovic was among the surprise protagonists of AC Milan’s win and clean sheet against Girona, and to think it could have been a ver different story.

Pavlovic was only signed a few months ago for €18m plus bonuses from Red Bull Salzburg and it has already been a season with more downs than ups, but last night he showed he can be a fundamental piece in Sergio Conceicao’s defensive rotations.

He played an attentive game against the LaLiga side, with some good interventions that allowed the Rossoneri to obtain a first clean sheet since Conceicao took over. Not only that, but the table now looks better too, with the jump into sixth spot.

According to La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com), in recent days there had been talk of a concrete interest from Fenerbahce in Pavlovic plus an offer worth over €20m when factoring in the loan fee and the obligation to buy.

The Rossoneri management had reached an advanced stage in the negotiations, before receiving a refusal from the Serbian centre-back, eager to continue his experience at Milan and play for a spot in the team.

The paper adds that it was RedBird’s senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic who convinced the player to say no to Fenerbahce because he is convinced of his quality and potential. Nonetheless, Milan remain ready to listen to any offers that may arrive in the next few days for the 23-year-old.

If another bid of €20m+ came in then the directors would again ask Pavlovic, perhaps gaining his approval. The funds would then be diverted to the attack, with Santiago Gimenez top of the list at the moment.

  1. Hope they don’t give up on him.
The bad traits to his game (like positioning and rashness) can be overcome with coaching.
Whist the good sides to his game. Like size, strength, one on one challenges are more traits that you either have or don’t.
    Plus his attitude seems strong.

He could become a great defender.

    1. Indeed. So what that he’s a bit too enthusiastic and sometimes a bit sloppy with his passes. He’ll learn. At least he has the courage to attempt those passes unlike e.g. Gabbia whose first choice is always passing backwards to MM16.

As soon as he learns to “dial it down” a notch, he’ll be huge. Literally. 🙂

      1. Warren, BB, if his passes were more crisp and positioning better, he wouldn’t cost 18M!! looks at the guy Man City just picked up for 40 M, only 12 month is ligue 1, great numbers but more then double the cost.
I think Pavlovic has the right attitude and can be coached to sharpen his deficiencies!

    2. Highly agree with you. I see a true potential gem in him as a core for our defense for years to come. I just hope he continues to get the support, coaching and game time he needs to get to those levels for us.

  2. The summary is that Ibra convinced him to stay despite Furlani and co wanting to sell him? Moncada and co will still table another offer to him if it matches 20m euros? Aint that something? So Ibra is not playing along with the rest of the management? haha!

    1. I don’t think we should take these articles too seriously, or Zlatan for that matter, or Moncada, or Cardinale,…
Just grab some 🍿 and watch as things happen.

  3. Pavlović has potential to be a top defender in the future. I hope that Mister gives him more opportunities to play and if he keeps playing like this, he can become a pillar in our defense.

  4. CB was never the issue, missing out on Kayode is! Him and Walker would be good depth we needed. But he went to Brentford for pennies. Also since the Adli situation we would have had the priority and Calabria could have been pushed there, but he now may end up at Juve…

  5. Hope Pavlo stays and develops. This is a tough league for defenders to come into and adapt straight away. Need time.

And I don’t believe for one second Ibra had anything to do with Pavlo staying. Sounds like a PR grab for ibra. If a club isn’t interested in selling a player, they reject a bid and it becomes a non-story.

  6. Do Not give up on him!!!!! I always believed he could turn a page. It’s an entirely new league. He has issues with passing, but otherwise he’s quite good. And I think he can get even better. Gabbia wasn’t amazing when he started either.

  7. My most complete defender in terms of physicality, shape, height and foot.
Only lacking experience which walker will provide for him to Bloom.

  8. This just demonstrates how dysfunctional our management is:

“ The Rossoneri management had reached an advanced stage in the negotiations, before receiving a refusal from the Serbian centre-back, eager to continue his experience at Milan and play for a spot in the team‘

    Zlatan wants him to stay.

    Furlani wants to sell him?

We were in advanced stages to sell but “it was RedBird’s senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic who convinced the player to say no to Fenerbahce because he is convinced of his quality and potential.”

What a 💩 show. No wonder we stink. Management are not on the same page. Embarrassing

We are not a serious club

  9. If pavlo continue playing with player like malic and gabbia is going to be a decent player but selling to another club for Capital gain is going to be another caliber of management mistake I trust conceicao for trusting him players by starting Dem online Forza Milan we need right wing and right back wing and attacker midfielder 10 with great creativity of pass 💯❤️ sempre Milan ❤️
