‘No awe towards anyone’ – Pavlovic praised for neutralising Lamine Yamal in Serbia-Spain

By Oliver Fisher -

Serbia were able to keep the European champions at bay last night as they earned a 0-0 draw at home against Spain, and Strahinja Pavlovic did his bit by neutralising Lamine Yamal.

As Radio Rossonera write, Serbia managed to get a point against a heavily-fancied Spain team and it could have been even better as Milan’s Luka Jovic missed a golden opportunity to give them the lead after half an hour.

What stood out though was the excellent performance by the Rossoneri’s summer signing Pavlovic, who started the game playing on the left of a three-man defence, with Nikola Milenkovic and Strahinja Erakovic the other central defenders, and Veljko Birmancevic the right wing-back.

What that meant is that he was tasked with keeping tabs on Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s teenage sensation who really shone at Euro 2024 as De La Fuente’s team went all the way. Dani Olmo played next to him, with Ayoze Perez up front.

The stats portal Sofascore gave him a 7.2 rating for his performance, while Corriere dello Sport gave him a 7.5 as he ‘managed to limit Yamal’s incursions’, even bringing the ball forward into the Spain half on a few occasions.

The Serbian source BLIC also highly praised the performance of the 23-year-old after a good European Championship campaign and a good start to life at Milan: ‘He confirmed the character of a boy who shows no awe towards anyone’.

  1. Imagine Serbian defense being better than Italian from Milan… funniest thing we have no Italians, since I think Calabria will be 2nd to Emerson Royal…

    1. I don’t blame him for the goals allowed. He lacks anticipation but he’s still young and Milan basically played with two backs against Lazio since Emerson Royal has been a major liability and Terracciano is not a good defender. He’s a physical freak and Milan could have a dominant defense if Tomori adapts to the right side, if Emerson Royal is benched and if Théo can find motivation again.

      1. Second goal I think he can take that hit, because he lost the battle with his man, but that first goal conceded, I think there was a misunderstanding with Terracciano. Because Terracciano tracked the attacker all the way, but then later dropped as he thought Pavlovic would pick him up, but Pavlovic was going to defend the cut back or cross. At least that’s how it looked from the angle I saw it.

    2. My comment wasn’t meant as a response haha but I think Calabria will start again soon as Emerson Royal is probably the worst player in the whole team.

  2. I don’t get how people don’t like this guy, he has proved that he HAS to start every game, has proved he has been our best signing (so far) and he is even performing for Serbia. And some people think Milan should’ve not signed? Make it make sense -_-

      1. Jovic doesnt deserve here in Milan. Or your standard of Milan striker is Jovic level. You should start supporting Brescia or Ascoli then
