Pavlovic

RR: Pavlovic ‘relapses’ on international duty as ‘unlucky period’ continues

AC Milan signed Strahinja Pavlovic in the summer and had high hopes for the young defender. However, his start has certainly been difficult.

Signing the young Serb definitely came with risks, especially considering the other options that were available on the market, and thus far, the risk isn’t paying off.

In the early stages of the season, Pavlovic was highlighted as one of Milan’s only performing players. However, a poor performance against Liverpool caused a drop in faith, and he has struggled to recover since, especially with others solidifying themselves in the picture.

If things are bad with the Rossoneri, you could argue that they are worse on international duty.

During the last international break, Pavlovic found himself on the receiving end of a dismissal when his side faced Spain, and once again, he was dismissed when his National Team faced Denmark. Which Radio Rossonera states to be a poor ending to a decent night and a relapse of the previous international break.

The report states that his second yellow, which arrived in the 95th minute, was not a summary of a poor performance, but instead, a souring taste on a decent display. Two yellow cards are poor in themselves, but both coming within five minutes is extremely questionable.

Ultimately, his aggressive streak must be turned down, as it will only be punished – whether that be by cards or by allowing his attacker through. A change must be made, and Pavlovic needs to make it.

  1. Pavlovic actually had the highest stats among Milan defenders. He isn’t flopping. Our problem is a lack of balance and cohesion.

Most goal we get are during transition or by poor positioning from fullbacks. Which is 100% on fonseca and his stupid offensive fullbacks tactics. If he wants to play that we need 3 behind. 3cbs, not 2 cbs and fofana drops between them. That’s unnecessary positioning and just confuses players. 3 cbs each of them knows what part of the pitch they in charge of and midfielders can play in midfield.
Simple solution for a simple problem.

    1. Whatever stats you refer to are irrelevant, if you watched the games you would know he has been disastrous.
To be fair to him, he has been playing in Austria!! so it’s going to take a couple of years to learn how to play at the top level.

Some day the owners/management will realise the difference between buying a player who is ready to contribute and buying one who will take years to mature

      1. Also he has spent the last 5 years bouncing around France, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria, including the likes of Monaco and Brugges who gave up on him, and they are good academy’s.

This is where spending 40m on a proven Serie A defender is actually better value long term than a 20m gamble on an unproven player.

When you consider the effect on the team, and the value it generates to win, also the time and wages, and the likelihood of having to buy again when things don’t work out, it’s a false economy.

But who can talk sense to people who push Kalulu out and bring in Emerson for 15m, while Bellanova (our youth product) was also available

      2. He wasn’t disastrous. I’ve seen disastrous CB players. They look nothing like pavlo.
And yeah stats definitely are irrelevant. Unless they fit the narrative of whoever is talking about the player.

I do agree we need to buy ready players.

    2. Lol, this video about Conte’s tactics at Napoli completely disagrees with you. Particularly the part about dropping a midfielder in between the CBs.

      1. I’m not watching that..but dropping a dm between cbs is a waste of time. In our case anyway. Because the cbs and mids are of questionable quality. And fonseca is a coach of questionable quality. So was/is pioli.

We don’t have a dm, we have a b2b and a mezzala in the double pivots. None of them is particularly versed in the art of playing cb or playing deep

    3. Yes, he is flopping. Easily the summer’s worst signing. Stop watching stats, and watch the actual games. One thing that bothers me in particular is despite his size, he seems to be pushed to the ground every few minutes or so. And he’s so erratic; the exact opposite from what we need.

Of course he will improve with enough time, but we don’t necessarily have that time.

  2. It’s not that he is flopping, that’s just who he is.
Salzburg wasn’t going to highlight his defencies all that much, but now that he plays in a much better league and in the UCL, he is exposed for what he is.
Of course, Fonseca being so bad at managing a defense, and changing CB pairing every 30 minutes isn’t doing him any favour either.

  3. “I’m not watching that”
Way to be dismissive. Because it goes against your idea?
Btw Pav does have some high stats but there are a few keys stats he falls short. He wins many tackles for instance, but loses just as many while his partners don’t.

    1. Why would I watch it? Conte isn’t at Milan and fofana is not dropping between the cbs. We play high risk high press most of the time when we’re out possession.

  4. He still has lots of room for growth. He should have never made that challenge for the second yellow the way he did. It’s naive but that shows his age and experience. Hes the ours now and will support the guy but really we needed some experience at the back

  5. A CDM’s job , is to drop between his CB to defend when his LB/RB ‘s is up the field.. seems like uve never played football and have no clue about tactical aspect of the game!
