Pazzini expected Milan to chase second goal instead of defending: “It’s always a risk”

Many were expecting to see a positive response from AC Milan against Udinese, following the draw against Salernitana. Even though it started well, the Rossoneri drew again and it’s something Giampaolo Pazzini didn’t expect.

The Rossoneri are still ahead of Inter in the standings as a result of the Nerazzurri’s 0-0 draw against Genoa last night. However, Napoli will have the chance to leapfrog them both as they will face Lazio tomorrow and are just three points behind Milan.

As mentioned, things started well for Milan last night as Rafael Leao gave them the lead. Afterwards, however, they were really poor overall and they have to blame themselves, even though the referee and VAR made a decisive mistake on Udinese’s equaliser.

Speaking live on DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, former Milan and Inter man Giampaolo Pazzini said that he was surprised to see Milan’s approach. Indeed, they were really poor after the opener.

“I was expecting another Milan after taking the lead, which was the most difficult thing against a team that defends like this. I expected them to gain more confidence and look for something more, instead, they tried to defend the lead.

“The only dangerous player was Leao, which isn’t enough for Milan. They tried to maintain the lead but with just one goal ahead, it’s always a risk, as we saw tonight,” he stated.
