Pedulla: Milan convinced they can get Fofana – Moncada’s ‘diplomatic skills’ key

By Oliver Fisher -

Geoffrey Moncada’s negotiating skills will be put to the test as the negotiations continue over Youssouf Fofana with Monaco, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported last night that Milan on Sunday made their first official offer to Monaco for Fofana and it was worth €17m, but it will not be accepted because they are holding out for around €35m, meaning there is a huge gap that will be difficult to bridge.

In an article written on his website (via Radio Rossonera), the journalist Alfredo Pedullà took stock of the negotiations between Milan and Monaco for Fofana as a tug-of-war between the two clubs continues.

“The request of 35 million does not fit with Milan’s strategy, [who are] convinced that they can get him for a figure under 20 million. The news from L’Equipe about a proposal from West Ham in line with Monaco’s requests is confirmed, but Fofana is taking his time for now because he wants Milan and to play in the Champions League,” he said.

“Now a lot will depend on Moncada’s diplomatic skills to close the deal, which is considered a priority for Milan’s new midfield. Obviously, the offer will need to be improved, without too many twists and turns.”

It remains to be seen whether the Rossoneri decide to formulate a third offer for the 25-year-old France international and if it will finally satisfy the Monegasque club.

The data does show that Fofana’s presence would add something that is missing in the Milan midfield, but they will only pay the right price as we have seen from previous negotiations.

    1. Did SM change the picture from initial released article? Because now I am seeing Fofana’s pict wearing white Monaco jersey.

  1. How do we get from 17mil to 35mil (-ish) in under a week with Fofana’s fingers tapping? Moncada’s going to need a George Clooney-level charm offensive to pull this one off.

    1. 35mil is madness. The question is, what figure are they really holding out for? The one they originally wanted? 20+add ons?

      1. It’s all pretty confusing. At first it was 20mil then 35 and like you say we have no idea what they really want. Let’s see what happens…

        1. I think the reports about their owner raging and skyrocketing the price have to be believed, especially that since the player got interests from some other teams.
I had hoped to close the deal last week for around 18M€ but it seems we have to look elsewhere.
In any case Fofana was never the DM I wanted.

          1. Fofana is refusing other moves though. Where does that leave Monaco? With the 35mil they will never get for him?

Tiago Scuro trying to make a statement since coming to Monaco. Idiotic.

They will likely drag this out as long as they can to make sure there’s no other possibility of a more lucrative move. But I expect Milan to have moved on by then hopefully. I hope we aren’t waiting for to get a DM late into August.

          2. If a club who is playing UCL next year makes a move for him, he’ll accept it.
I’m not in Monaco’s management, but for what they care if they can’t get good money out of him, might as well squeeze the most of him next season to get a UCL spot.
“I hope we aren’t waiting for to get a DM late into August.”
This is the scenario I’m afraid of.

  2. Monaco already sign his replacement midfielder Lamine Camal 20 years from senegal with 13m euro transfer fee source fabrizio romano . This management need to increase their offer but not 35m euro of course

  3. Moncada’s “skills”:
    The player costs 35M.
    – Ok, 18?
    – No, 35.
    – But I said 18.
    – Still 35.
    – 19 then. Plus a bag of crisps, we good?

  4. Anyways, we will need to go up 1-2m from the initial 17m to show our willingness to close the deal. We are being very polite and considerate to offer 17-20m for a player whose contract is expiring in 11 months. I could see why Monaco president is angry for losing a good midfielder. But I don’t understand why is he angry with a club that is trying to help Monaco out? Monaco not being able to extend the contract with Fofana is entirely their fault, they had all the time in the world to get that done and they failed. Fofana will leave as a free agent next summer and he could join any club, not just Milan.

It is like you can’t pay for your mortgage no more and are forced to sell your property. I see the opportunity and come in to and take over the mortgage for you. You are now relieved from the mortgage payments but do not make any gains from giving up your property. And you get mad at me for not being able to make gains. Why Monaco so “smart” and greedy?
