Pedulla states Sarri is ‘waiting’ for an Italian offer with foreign Fonseca replacement ‘unlikely’

Maurizio Sarri is believed to be one of the leading candidates for the AC Milan job if Paulo Fonseca is sacked, and today, Alfredo Pedulla has spoken of the chances of the move.

When Stefano Pioli was sacked, Sarri was linked to being his replacement, albeit that was all the talk ever was – links. However, with Fonseca’s job hanging in the balance, the possibilities of him leading Milan are being spoken about once more.

The Rossoneri have started the season poorly, but things can be salvaged under the right coach, and discussions began as early as Tuesday night about the possibility of sacking the current head coach. Since then, reports have offered multiple conclusions from the meeting, even suggesting that a decision has been made, but it seems Fonseca should at least be in charge for the Derby della Madonnina.

When speaking to Sportitalia (via Milan News), Pedulla commented on Sarri’s current ideals, and also Milan’s chances of bringing him to the club.

“There have never been contacts with Roma, the Giallorossi had made different choices. At the moment Sarri has said no to two proposals he received from abroad because he is waiting for an offer from Italy, Milan in the lead.

“I believe he could be a candidate for the Rossoneri’s bench should the derby go wrong for Fonseca on Sunday night. We said it last week that the three games against Venezia, Liverpool and Inter would be crucial and decisive for Fonseca,”  he stated.

“Sarri came close to signing AC Milan twice: the first time with Galliani, the second time before Atalanta-Milan when he was supposed to go to the headquarters the next day to sign the contract, Maldini was still there. Then Milan won 2-0 and went into the Champions League. If he hadn’t won that match, Pioli would no longer have been the AC Milan coach.

“I’m not talking about contacts, but it’s a waiting phase. There are also other candidates, and it is unlikely a foreign coach will arrive. There is a substantial difference with Allegri regarding the way of playing and some internal relations. Allegri we cannot keep him off this list, but the wait for Sarri is linked to the fact that after the derby something important could happen that could involve him.”

  1. Milan should get a foreign coach with real pedigree. If we want to get ahead of the competition, Milan needs someone with new and fresh ideas for the entire Serie A. Italian football could do well with some influenced from the German coaches, like we saw it in the Premier League. A Spanish coach like Xavi could also be very exciting. Sarri would not be a good fit for Milan at all. Not if we want to become a proper European team

    1. Sarri all day.

I don’t know where this idea comes from that Calcio doesn’t evolve. Look at Inter last night – they were brilliant! Toe to toe with one of the two best teams in the world, pitching system against system using quality, settled players. There was no clear winner.

Italy makes the best coaches in the world; everyone accepts that. Why on earth would they not be suited to Italy?

The problem with Italian football is entirely to do with infrastructure. That is starting to improve (albeit still far to slowly) and then the football will naturally improve with it; but the football certainly doesn’t need to change.

      1. I’m not sure on Sarri in the short term and we need to steady the ship asap. I agree with you 100% on Italian coaches being the best though, and I strongly believe an Italian coach is needed after Fonseca.
I have been impressed by Vanoli , Torino’s coach but he is someone for the future. For now it’s got be Allegri or Sarri. I think Allegri would be better in the short term but would he accept a short contract?

      2. let us be honest Sarri would not be a good choice for AC Milan. This team needs to be respected, they have players who have won the league title and went to the semi-finals in the UCL.

Those players are now older and with the additions made to the team, a coach needs to reflect the natural evolution in objectives. The aim should be to keep making deep runs into the UCL and making the league title a close battle.

Fonseca isn’t the guy to do that, everyone knew this when he was hired but left it alone because of the possibility of being wrong. But based on the performances so far he is closer to being fired than ever before. Sarri falls in the same category as a coach who isn’t right for these objectives.

This has nothing to do with Italian coaches, it has to do with the lack of coaches who have better ideas. Thiago Motta was the right choice but the management dropped the ball. So I think they have to go with someone from outside the league.

I will put my hat on Klopp. I think he was always the best option for AC Milan. If not him, Tuchal is a good option, but he loses the dressing room and doesn’t play well with the management. This means that Klopp is again the only option. I think everyone else who is available isn’t the right fit.

On a side note, Inter Milan didn’t go toe-to-toe with Man City. Inter played the type of football that kept them from losing the game. They played counter-attacking football with the use of a low block. This worked today but it isn’t a sure thing.

        1. With the exception that we agree Fonseca is done, and I’d obviously take Klopp (albeit I appreciate we simply cant afford him), I respectfully disagree with everything else you just typed.

        2. U know nothing about yesterdays match ,
Inter played there way as an Italian team resting there best players to match city head to head

  2. If we are to fire fonseca and considering the names were linked with sarri is probably the best option. #1, an Italian coach that knows and won the league will settle in quicker.
#2 is that a team like milan best suits sarri balls since his days at napoli so he can really flourish again.
The other option could be tuchel or allegri which I’m not thrilled about.

    Terzic and moyes….. NO.

I think no matter what fonseca is going to be sacked. Here’s so much news about pension between management and between players already and hes only been here since July.

I just hope with any manager we get milan are smart enough to only give them a contract till the end of the year and at worst case hold the advantage of being able to extend it.

  3. Fonseca’s biggest weakness is not the fact that Milan lost but how they lost. They resembled the qualities of a high school team that never trained together. My money is on Sarri to sort out this mess. Keeping fingers crossed.

    1. Exactly.

Losing to Liverpool is no disgrace.

A bunch of men in Milan shirts rolling onto their backs and asking the Liverpool players to tickle their bellies? I’d have sacked him on the pitch at full time in full view of the fans.

    2. Tuchel with back 3 would make all the difference as well…

Bartesaghi and Calabria can come to make CBs at 6 and I think that’s where our captain will shine (that Pavard role basically).

The only problem I see is RWB, which if we had kept Saelemakers we would have had the solution. Also, 3-4-3 can also sort the midfield issue. with our lack of depth, Fofana-Reijnders double-pivot makes most sense. Also, I think the only areas that woks are our attack and GK, so I would keep the attackers number at 3.

      1. I disagree on the back 3…

This is wrong.. bring a coach that works with what we have.. not rigid sytem, and we have to change entire team. We have a good squad, we lack of physlosophy and a system thats better adaptable.
I dont understand with all summer testing kalulu as a RB in training and we end up selling him. I feel this is Fonseca. We need to clear a player of the squad and he gave his feedback. When bennacer got injured he said on with the Futuro as backup….

      2. Tuchel is intriguing, if we can get him .
The 3-4-3 could work again like when it worked against Tottenham.
The team needs to create a solid defense period, so if that is by switching to a 3-4-3 then so be it.
I agree with you about Bartesaghi & Calabria( who would do well in a 3 man
defense) and Salemaekers would have played RWB too.
Regarding who can play RWB now , Musah
would be able to play that role with Emerson his back -up.

    3. I believe and stand with u
Sarri resigned from empoli for Milan job and Milan snub him and he went to Napoli and did wonders
And went to Chelsea and won Europa and caring cup and the team was about to settle they sack him
And went to juve and gave them that last league

  4. Truth is, Fonseca has to stay to lose the Derby so that whoever they bring in can start with less pressure. Fonseca is already as good as gone.

No coach would want to come in under duress and have his first game in charge be the Derby. LOL!!!
