Pedulla offers verdict on Milan’s Buongiorno attempts: “Never materialised”

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan will add a central defender to their ranks, and possibly there will be two arriving in the summer mercato, and a player they have been heavily linked with is Alessandro Buongiorno, but Alfredo Pedulla has suggested that the Rossoneri’s chances are slim.

There is a very healthy budget for Milan to play with this summer, but they must be financially smart, and whether Buongiorno offers the right value remains unknown. In January, offers were made, and an offer was made to the player, but Urbano Cairo refused to allow a deal in the middle of the season.

For months, it has seemed that the Rossoneri would then make a move now, in the summer, but it seems this will be difficult to do, given Cairo has raised the price further than what it was in January.

Of course, with the Diavolo having no players representing the Italian National Team at the European Championship, there is a desire for natives to be added, but spending money on ready-made players with rising prices is entering questionable territory.

Speaking on his YouTube channel (via Radio Rossonera), Pedulla took stock of the situation and offered a worrying verdict, at least from a Milan perspective.

“He was worth €40 million before the European Championship, as far as I know, he wants to go to Napoli. It’s useless to make the speeches about Cairo and the captain’s armband…his will is clear, if Cairo wants to keep him unwillingly it means he will have a captain who will have to regain enthusiasm.

“But compared to what happened in January with Atalanta, he wants to go to Napoli. Milan never materialised. On his current price, the European effect isn’t there because he hasn’t played, so not a comma has changed.”

    1. You think he’s worth the same price as Musah or Emerson Royal? Honestly for a guy that established himself as one of the best centre backs in Serie A last season and that could become a solid starter for ten years I don’t think it’s too much. But it seems that any player north of 20M€ is too expensive for us…

  1. 25 Million + bonus is a reasonable price for him, not more. Cairo/Italian players are so overpriced nowadays that no one else needs them besides teams around Italy. And at the end, he stuck with them. Look at what happened with Beloti. People in the forum were bashing Milan in 2017 because they didn’t want to pay the 100M Cairo were asking for him. That would’ve been the dumbest decision to pay him even 50M for him. Now no one wants him.

    1. Well now no one wants David Beckham either, that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t top player once. Players don’t last for ever. Back then Belotti was scoring 30 goals and was well worth 50mil.

      1. What kind of analogy is this?
You are comparing apples and oranges.
Tomori has played for Milan and Chelsea. Big clubs in the world of football. This means he can play with the added pressure of representing a big club.
Tomori was major part of a team that won the scudetto in a year where he was voted the best serie A defender.
Tomori comes in with several years of playing in the most prestigious competition in football, the UCL.
Does Boungiorno brings any of those accolades or experiences?
Boungiorno best characteristic is that he is Italian.

        1. One was called to the national team and the other wasn’t. And I’m comparing a cb to a cb. They aren’t even that far apart in age…
          End of discussion

          1. So because a player was called up for a national team and the other wasn’t that means that he is better?
Tomori and Boungiorno played the same amount of minutes at the Euro. He couldn’t even beat out a bum like Mancini for minutes.
Boungiorno outside of serie A and Copa Italia has zero experience at top level, while Tomori has plenty of experience.
Boungiorno will have to prove that he can play for a big team, Tomori has proven.
According to Fabrizio, Napoli’s new bid for Boungiorno will be around 35 mil, so the other person saying 25 + bonuses isn’t that insulting.
25 + bonuses for Tomori is insulting based on everything I stated , 25 + bonuses is about right valuation for Boungiorno.
Theo Hernández and Ballo Toure are both left backs and around the same age. Based on your logic they must be worth the same amount of money on the market.

          2. Fine be difficult about it. Once napoli pays 35-40M for him and finish in front of us you’ll be the one crying and I’ll just say I told you so and lift the middle finger to yall 🤡

          1. More and more silly arguments.
So if Napoli finishes next season that will be because of Boungiorno.
What does that have to do with you thinking that the 2 players are valued the same simply because they are both CB’s and around the same age?
When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the LOSER!

          2. What debate you demented fool? You already decided Buongiorno isn’t wort 40M.. you think I’m stupid enough to try and change a mind of an idi0t who can’t, by himself, came to a conclusion like that? I’m better off just collecting material for my divine comedy sketch

          3. Triggered ha ha 😂.
If you cannot prove a man wrong, don’t panic, you can always call him names.
First of all you were trying to make a case that Tomori and Boungiorno are valued the same because they play the same position and the same age. Silliness.
Also, it’s not only me that thinks he isn’t worth 40 mil. Napoli and Conte don’t think that he isn’t worth that much.
Take the L and go try to convince them that he is worth 40 mil.

          4. Damn the guy forgot to take his pills again.

According to reports, Torino wants 30M+5M for Buongiorno (correct spelling) and Napoli offers 25M+5M. They’ll probably find a middle ground as the player said yes to the move. It seems that Milan wants a centre back, there is one talented right fcking here, that already knows Serie A, that is young and that is “affordable” in the sense that we can afford him. And Milan plays UCL. But Milan will miss him. Another masterful gambit.

And yes, Buongiorno can make a difference. Remember that Kim was paramount in the Scudetto winning season of Napoli. But De Laurentiis and Conte probably said to the player that they want to win, which is not something Milan can offer to a player.

          5. I never said Tomori and Buongiorno are valued the same. I said if someone offers 25M plus bonuses for Tomori would that not be insulting?
Everything else is all you. Making strawman after strawman and thinking you’re winning. Idk at what tho. Uno?

          6. I will say this and them I’m done. Milan bought Tomori for 35M when he was basically a nobody with one good season in epl.

          7. “One was called to the national team and the other wasn’t. And I’m comparing a cb to a cb. They aren’t even that far apart in age…
            End of discussion”

            This you, strawman?
You should have just ended the discussion there instead of keep writing nonsense 🙄

          8. “25 plus bonuses is insulting.. would you accept that for tomori?”

            How about this , strawman?
You brought up Tomori in comparison to Boungiorno, no one else.
Learn how to carry and follow a conversation that you started.

    2. Yeah I agree. 25 million is the most I’d want Milan to pay for Buongiorno. But I would prefer them to splash 30-40 and get Calafiori.

  2. Napoli: funky Coach, strong President, good weather and an italian Atmosphere! This is here almost right Wing! Where is benson— he will say This!

    1. Sorry to say but Napoli is Marseille of Italy. A romantic Roman coastal city turned sh*thole. Really sad in my opinion as I love that kind of southern Mediterranean vibes.

  3. Forget Buongiorno and Calafiori, two players already half way to another club. Get Bijol. Current value 10M per Transfermarkt. Certainly going up to 20M after the Euros. Still cheaper than the other two.

  4. You seem to forget about one thing – that he currently is at club which is claimed by a madman (see what he did with Belotti), therefore he will cost Milan a lot. And he might simply be not worth that.

Easier to look elsewhere (Ligue1, Premier League) for young central back.

  5. We have few players Torino are reportedly interested in and we have CdK money. This tells me RedBird are not really pursuing Buongiorno as they could have him already if they wanted. Saying they need to sell one of Thiaw or Tomori first is just an excuse for buying time.

In the end they’ll sell one of Thiaw or Tomori and bring in someone like Maxence Lacroix or Diogo Leite and expect them to hit the ground immediately.
