Pellegatti confirms Maignan’s salary demands and urges Milan to ‘decide now’

Carlo Pellegatti has confirmed the reports circulating regarding Mike Maignan’s salary requests to renew, and he believes that the amount is correct for a player of his quality.

Maignan is one of the undisputed leaders of this Milan team and he is also one of the best players in the world in his position. It is for this reason one of the priorities among the management at present is his contract renewal.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reported yesterday that the goalkeeper wants €8m net per season to renew his current deal which expires in 2026. Given he earns €2.8m per year, it leaves the management with a decision to make as he would become the highest paid squad member.

Pellegatti spoke during the ‘Filo Rossonero’ segment on Radio Rossonera about a number of topics from the game against Atalanta to Gerry Cardinale’s visits to the Middle East. He also spoke about Maignan’s potentially difficult renewal.

“I confirm that the agents’ request is starting from 8 million, which is the right figure for me. Maignan is one of the top 3, 4 or 5 in the world. And his competitors in the race for the best in the world all receive these very high figures,” he said.

“It would be right in his last contract to give him these figures. Otherwise we’ll start evaluating the sale. But you have to decide now, don’t drag it out. The role is too delicate, he is a particular character.”

  1. we needed 5 years and Maldini&Massara had to see so many starters leave for free just to low the total salaries to pay so much for Mike? I doubt.
If Milan’s new tactic is to sell one big name every year maybe its Mikes turn..

    1. Milan raised ammortisation a lot in this year, and also club bringed some players in high salaries such as Pulisic, Ruben, Chukwueze. Selling is good because that money can easily be reinvested and keep club in good balance in case of season with bad results. It is usually better to sell one or none best player per year, than to have 1 bad season and must sell many of them, like (sh)iter, every year

  2. I was looking at top GK salaries.. Most are under 8M. Ter Stegen, 4 example, earns 3M, net ofc. Alisson 5M. Ederson 3.4M. This is a good one, Onana 4M, De gea (last year) 12.5M. Oblak 10M, Curtois 7M. Sczesny 6.5M. Dollar 7M+3M in bonuses. Neur 11.1M.

Mike asking for 8M net, bit much.

    1. I’m not sure where you got these numbers but they are incorrect. Ter Stegen earns 9M€, Allision is at £7.8M, and Allisson £5.2M. Neuer blew my mind as he is at 21M€.

Regardless, I agree that 8M net is a lot for a keeper, but he will attract that kind of money, especially since he plays for France, favorites in the Euros and possibly the world cup in 2026.

  3. 8 million is a fair price for a GK who’s not just great at gatekeeping but also great at ball distribution and can gave an assist every season.

But i can see Gery and Furlani gonna sell him and then say “Hey, we have Sportiello at the bench who also as great as Mike”.

Heck, K, the ultimate Gery fart sniffers already think 8 million is too much for Mike lmao 🤣

    1. Hey what a shock, another ignorant juvenile comment from ForzaMilan. Again, with nothing to back it up, just fantasies going on in his head.
One assist per season is not reason to throw that much money at a keeper who is injured as much as he is. Also his actual goalkeeping has dropped off this season. Money can be better spent signing a top defender, after all even a great keeper is no good with a leaky defense in front of him.

      1. What would you expect from a kid who uses words such as “fart sniffer”? Accurate and detailed analysis (of anything)? LOL.
