‘Would have liked Saelemaekers’ – Pellegatti confirms Fonseca ‘very strongly’ wants Abraham

By Oliver Fisher -

Carlo Pellegatti has confirmed the news doing the rounds claiming that AC Milan want Tammy Abraham, with the coach Paulo Fonseca pushing for him.

In a segment on Radio Rossonera, Pellegatti stated that Abraham is ‘a player that Fonseca wants very strongly’ because he ‘likes his characteristics, how he plays and how he moves’. The unknown is his physical condition, but Milan have confirmed to him that they will work on that aspect.

The Englishman is ‘a name that should be taken into great consideration’ as per the journalist, but just like the Youssouf Fofana situation there is ‘a big gap between what the clubs want for the two players and Milan’s offers’.

Milan will continue negotiate over Emerson Royal, then ‘calmly’ they will turn their attentions to Fofana and Abraham. Pellegatti admits he has ‘no idea about the formula’ for Abraham, but adds that Luka Jovic could have been a counterpart however Roma are not keen on him.

“I know for sure that Roma would have liked Alexis Saelemaekers, who if 15 days ago was on the market, now is no longer. Physical problems are always a bit of a question mark [for Abraham], but if Fonseca wants him and Milan takes him into consideration they will have also calculated it,” he concludes.

  1. I get he’s a good player when fit and I’d be happy if he were here but I don’t like the large number of players we have on the books and I don’t see the point if we can’t work with Morata, Jovic and Okafor for a single position. Surely someone would have to leave first?

    1. It’s more like keeping midfield number at 6, so Pulisic can play part of his games as N10, freeing space on the wing. Plus there will always be 1-2 injuries, so even then we will be stacked.

I would have even sold/terminated Jovic to keep either Colombo or Nasti. The safer option already left though and I don’t think Nasti will be trusted as much.

    1. I just don’t get it, but it’s fair if Fonseca is specifically asking for him, he deserves that benefit of the duobt.

The thing is, Tammy will want regular football to try to get into the National Team so hopefully he understands he will be second fiddle to Morata.

I would have loved to trade Alexis for Tammy in some way so that if this backfires it wouldn’t have cost us a lot of cash…

      1. I think something else to keep in mind is that with 50 some odd games there should be plenty of minutes for both strikers. I hope Fonseca is not as adverse to rotation as Pioli was who only started someone other than Giroud when he was absolutely knackered. A good manager should find plenty of opportunities for more than one striker.

      2. Milan is trying to get him on loan with the option to buy. He won’t cost a lot of cash.
Tammy wanting to get back into the NT is a positive thing for Milan, not negative. That means he will have to play well.
He is aware that Morata is already at Milan and that he will start the season as a backup or 2nd fiddle, but If he performs better than Morata why wouldn’t he take over as a starter. The in form player should play, not the coaches pet like under Pioli.

    2. You just want Tammy don’t you ?
In any case, we have already a plethora of players and still not a single one in the defensive midfield.
To get Tammy, one or Jovic or Okafor has to go, otherwise it will be too many strikers.

      1. I want Fulkrug, but Tammy would be a very good signing too, if he is completely recovered from his injury.
He scored 27 goals for Roma just 2 years ago, but we have clowns comparing him with Origi.
Who is the last Milan striker that even sniffed 27 goals in a season since Zlatan in 11/12? There is only 1 striker that scored 20 in 12 years and that was Bacca, with exactly 20 for one season only.

      2. The fact that this management building a team with rejects and leftovers finds so much enthusiasm around here is somehow funny. They get cheap players that are not recruited by anyone else but it’s like they recruit superstars every time. Meanwhile that team doesn’t seem better than last year, especially in a midfield that was the biggest weakness. The best joke being the management teasing the fans with the famous Mister X to finally have Morata. But so be it, let’s see if Fonseca can do better than last season’s rollercoaster.

        1. We don’t have the financial to take big risks and spend +50 mil per player like the big premier league teams. We have to invest smart. You never know if the signing will workout, so it’s always a risk. Better to take smaller risks with chance for high return of investment. You see how the big spending worked during the banter era with the likes of A. Silva, Bonucci, Paquetta…

    3. And if Fonseca is sacked before Christmas?

And what exactly are we paying the army of middle managers for if the manager still decides transfers?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer the model where the manager decides everything but then surely we get rid of all of the directors.

So many organisations these days are too heavy and filled with consultants and jobs worths.

      1. Frankly it does make sense to get/keep the players the coach wants, he is after all the one managing the team.
Now as far as our model is concerned, I’m just gonna say it’s a mess and we have too many people.

  2. Amaizing back up striker to challenge Morata for starting spot. If he would find his form from 21/22 season, potential +20 goals season striker. Also he is 27 so even if he flops, we could sell him in 2 years back to premier league and gain some of the money back. Fullkrug doesn’t have much resale value 34 years old.

  3. Abraham lack consistency bcuz of his injury. Let’s go for a promising striker that can bang 18 goals per season. Let’s go for Dominic Solanke. A player for now and the future.

  4. What a mess.

We can’t keep Saelemaekers because Chuk and Okafor are already struggling for form.

And as much as I love Saelemaekers and will forever remember his Napoli goal, he’s not so good that we should be undermining two very expensive signings who probably have more potential.

This is just a textbook case of the shambolic, unstructured, unfocused approach to transfers.

Now we’re going to ruin three players instead of letting one them of go free.

    1. It’s Fonseca who asked to keep Saelemakers, but since neither Okafor nor Leao had yet to play, I wonder what he will think after getting them.
Now the “new” Saelemakers is more of a left winger apparently so he won’t necessarly interfere with Chukwueze and Pulisic while Okafor can play upfront. But I don’t see Saelemakers getting that many minutes, and he apparently wanted out because he wasn’t getting many minutes, so it does seem tricky.
But overall, despite “only” getting Morata who replaced Giroud, and getting Saelemakers back while losing Romero, we seem to have too many players upfront (Leao, Saelemakers, Pulisic, Chukwueze, Morata, Jovic and Okafor) for like 3 or 4 positions. So frankly unless we sell either Okafor or Jovic, I won’t go for another striker.

  5. I had watched Abraham play for several years at Chelsea (when not hurt). I would only be interested in getting him on loan for backup so that he could be returned to his club if he doesn t work out. NOT A BIG FAN OF HIS !

  6. Salad is solid. But I see this as a failure to be able to sell him.

Jube or Roma probably offer 10M or so, Clown Management want 20M.

He’ll probably get annoyed at been a rotation player(why he left to Bologna) and we’ll have to look to move him again in Jan.
