Pellegatti urges Milan to explore €15-18m deal for Montpellier star to combat crisis

AC Milan are facing somewhat of a crisis in the attacking department heading into the January window and Carlo Pellegatti has a suggested a name for the management to explore signing.

Milan have found themselves in a difficult situation whereby there are currently no healthy natural strikers available to Stefano Pioli as preparation continues for the resumption of the Serie A season on January 4 with the trip to face Salernitana.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still recovering from the knee surgery he underwent last May, while Olivier Giroud is on vacation after reaching the World Cup final and will not return until after Christmas, Divock Origi has picked up a flexor problem and Marko Lazetic (18) has played mostly with the Primavera.

Carlo Pellegatti spoke about Stefano Pioli’s latest injury crisis in an editorial for MilanNews and suggested a signing that could fix things not just not but for the future too.

“Now perhaps it would be important to reflect on the opportunity for strengthening that role as well. Personally, I still have nightmares when I remember that distant Milan-Manchester on March 18, 2021,” he began.

“Stefano Pioli deployed this scary attack, due to a total emergency in the attacking department: Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Krunic and the striker – as false nine – Castillejo. The Milan coach could opt, as a solution for the first game of 2023, in Salerno, for CDK as a central striker, a role already occupied, successfully, on many occasions, by the Belgian talent at Brugge.

“The alternative could be the usual Rebic, provided that his physical condition improves a lot, probably affected by the heavy loads imposed by the AC Milan coach. It is difficult, indeed it seems almost impossible to see Giroud – who will return only a few days before from his World Cup commitments – ready from the first minute at the Arechi.

“Today, the squad can count on the Frenchman at the centre of the attack, who, however, can no longer be forced to work overtime as in the months of September and October. On Origi, he has been stopped due to a muscle problem that will keep him out for a few weeks, but above all already hit by sudden physical troubles.

“On Ibrahimovic, we hope to be ready soon but certainly not before the end of January. Let’s certainly not forget the young Marco Lazetic, but it seems to me soon to entrust him with the heavy task of leading the Milan attack.

“In addition, as mentioned, the CDK and Rebic solutions. After these reflections related to too many variables, what is the solution? Well, the plenipotentiaries of the market will thoroughly evaluate the issues related to the central striker.

“Perhaps it would be necessary to soon examine some opportunities linked to the January 2023 transfer market. The ideal would perhaps be an Italian reinforcement, also available for the UEFA squad list, in view of the Champions League commitments.

“However, I’d like to point out a foreign name, which first appeared on my YouTube channel last Thursday. He could be the new Kolo Mouani. He is French, born on 2 January 2003 and belongs to Jorge Mendes’ team.

“His name is ELYE WAHI, he plays in Montpellier, in Ligue 1. He played as a starter, ATTENTION, ATTENTION TO THE NUMBERS, 14 games and scored 6 goals. He has an overall average of one goal every 177 minutes. He is the third-youngest player to score ten goals in Ligue 1. Ahead of Wahi, only Mbappè and Dembele, behind him a certain Thierry Henry.

“The cost is around 15/18 million. I watched the match against Lyon on 24 October and he scored a beautiful goal, thanks to a splendid bicycle kick, making me jump on the sofa. A masterpiece. Go see it.”

  1. So Lazetic who has already been with the club for a year is too young at 18, but Wahi who plays in France is not at 19? I understand Wahi is a first team starter, but come on. Give Lazetic a chance. What was the point of signing him? It’s not like he’s being asked to lead the line for the rest of the season, just one or two games to give Giroud a break. Plus CDK should be given the start at ST anyway, so Lazetic will only be the option off the bench. Our striker group is a bit of a mess right now, but we need to save our money for greater needs, like RW and renewals.

    1. He has 0 experience. This guy plays in the first team in the first french league. And has about the same goal per minute like Giroud, who everyone is talking about like that is something great. If that is true than this guy is a super talent…we already got another veteran instead of going all in for Muani. It was clear he will be amazing, he was showing it, but it is better to get a 35+ year old who wastes a bunch of chances every match. Dude was so bad in the final he had to be replaced before half time, same happened in the match before…

      1. Kalulu had 0 experience too. I guess my point is we keep buying 18-19 y/o strikers and not playing them, regardless of experience. Maybe this guy will have something more than the others, but we can’t keep paying 5-6m or 18m for kids and then also have these veterans and other kids on the roster. At some point they need to be given a chance. Otherwise save the money and sign someone for 30m instead of five 6m kids.
