Pellegatti: Milan should offer Rebic in swap deal for Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic

By Isak Möller -

Ante Rebic is expected to part ways with AC Milan in the summer and rumours about his next destination have already started to emerge. The latest suggestion is a bit crazy, but one that the Rossoneri fans surely are in favour of.

Rebic has scored just three goals this season and he has also had some injury struggles. In short, Milan are not happy with his performances and have more or less decided already to part ways with him in the summer.

Speaking to Top Calcio 24 (read in full here), the well-known Milan journalist Carlo Pellegatti decided to make a rather crazy swap suggestion. As Lazio appreciate Rebic, he said that Paolo Maldini should use him to get Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

“It seems that Lazio like Rebic and there is a player there who would make everyone at Milan happy: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic,” Pellegatti stated.

Milinkovic-Savic’s contract will expire in 2024 and that’s why Milan could have a chance this summer, although perhaps not with that offer. Rebic plus cash could be another story, though, but we are not there yet.

  1. The reason Rebic is not playing as well as he once did (when he used to be a match winner against the likes of Juve) is because he’s not playing as regularly and when a player doesn’t play regularly they’re generally not at their best.

That means that rarely will any back up players be that useful because they don’t play regularly. One way of dealing with this is to have utility players who play in a few positions and so get regular games swapping in for different players.

Nicky Butt used to cover across the midfield four for Man Utd treble winning side even covering for Giggs and Beckham.

Iniesta, generally a starter, was deployed in midfield and attack to allow for the Barca front three to be rested.

Juve’s great midfield “three” consisted Pirlo, Vidal, Marchisio and Pogba, with Cáceres covering across the BBC back three.

The mistake that Pioli has made is not using Rebic as a utility player across the front three. Instead of resting all three players in one game, he should’ve rested the three of them over the course of three games with Rebic filling for one of them over each of those games.

    1. He doesnt play plus he was injured a couple of times. He is a good player tho, just 2 seasons ago (before his on off injuries) his stats were 11G9A. thats what leao did last season.

To prove your theory we take Krunić for example, more he plays better he got.
Pioli really is poor at using his subs and integrating them into the team on a bigger lvl. We have many talented guys in the team that should be playing more and not just the odd game here and there.

As for the rebić+cash for SMS. That solves one problem (assuming SMS isnt a flop) and makes a new one. With Ante gone Milan must then find a new rw, which means spending cash

      1. I think Milan’s new RW would be coming from the Primavera in the form of Chaka Traore. This would mean no cash needed for Rebic replacement

        1. thats not gonna happen man.. How many teenagers have you seen playing for Milan in the last 20 years?
I can name only Dollar and that took a lot of balls from mihajlovic (rip) at the time

    2. Rebic has been struggling with lots of injuries this season.

And as for this rumour with SMS, of course it won’t be a straight swap. All in all, our midfield with him will be elite.

  2. Rebic + 30-40m euro should be fair for SMS. But we know lotito wont make it easy for italian club. Most likely lotito will choose sell SMS to EPL club for big money
