Pellegatti outlines how Kjaer changes Milan’s defence and picks out Inter’s weakness

Carlo Pellegatti believes that Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was a weak link during their derby loss on Saturday, and he raised a concern about AC Milan’s defence.

It was a thrilling game between Milan and Inter at San Siro as the Nerazzurri got themselves in the lead through Marcelo Brozovic before Rafael Leao equalised to ensure the scores were level heading into the break.

Milan then raced out into a 3-1 lead as Olivier Giroud and Leao each scored, but substitute Edin Dzeko made it a very nervous last 25 minutes as he replied to make it 3-2, though in the end Stefano Pioli’s men hung on for all three points.

The well-known journalist and pundit Pellegatti spoke on Radio 24 during the ‘Tutti Convocati’ segment and revisited the derby match on Saturday evening, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Inter have a problem at the moment, which I have always admired and which I would have gladly signed in past years: Handanovic. He is in trouble, even on Giroud’s shot he could do something more,” he said.

“Now Pioli must be good at inserting one or two for each match, without distorting the team. Then I insert another theme: Kjaer, due to his characteristics, makes the team go a bit deeper and doesn’t press like Tomori and Kalulu.”

  1. Fully agree. From time to time (depending on how the opponent plays) it’s wiser to put Kjaer in duet with Tomori or Kalulu (who more or less share the same character). His ability in reading the game, aerial duel, and his long pass should cover up his lack of speed and aggression. And let’s how Thiaw will fit into the Pioli’s game as well.

  2. I think the question is whether Kjaer is yet fit to play the full 90 minutes. I hope he is or at least very close. Once he is, he should start with Tomori and Kalulu should start at RB with Calabria to the bench as a backup.
