Pellegatti gives update on Zirkzee talks, ‘very remote’ Lukaku idea and Fonseca doubts

By Oliver Fisher -

Journalist Carlo Pellegatti has spoken about a number of topics linked to AC Milan at the moment, including the potential signings of Romelu Lukaku and Joshua Zirkzee.

While it is now common knowledge that Paulo Fonseca will become the next head coach of Milan, there is an overwhelming feeling of mystery surrounding how the start to his era will actually look because of all the other doubts.

The Rossoneri are being linked with a number of different strikers and full-backs, for example, while there are also question marks surrounding the potential sale of a big player and some key renewals.

In addition to that, it must be said that Fonseca is not exactly arriving to full approval from the fan base, with Antonio Conte going to Napoli and Roberto De Zerbi without a club, to give a couple of examples.

Speaking to Radio Rossonero, Pellegatti spoke about the possible presentation date of Paulo Fonseca and the rumours of Lukaku joining Milan, as well as the stories related to Zirkzee.

On Lukaku: “Milan could consider the loan option. At the moment Napoli are in pole position, but just a few moments ago there was a tweet from an expert who says that Chelsea are tired of continuing to loan him after having spent 110 million.

“Either Lukaku stays there, or he leaves for 38 million, in addition to the 7.5 million salary for the player, who is 31 years old and would be paid more than Leao. The hypothesis that he will come to Milan is not 0% but very very remote.”

On Zirkzee: “The latest news talks about Milan deciding to pay the 40 million. They have always described it to me as an operation where Bayern Munich sells him to you, perhaps with the right to buy him back.

“Of course there are always these 10/15 million commissions. If Milan then breaks this commission dam, they will no longer be able to save themselves in other negotiations. If they are determined to pay the clause they know they will face that problem.”

On the new coach: “I don’t expect the presentation for next week, it would already be a lot to have the announcement. There are two schools of thought regarding the presentation: one in mid-June, the other in early July for vague bureaucratic issues.

“On Fonseca, when I see him sign for Milan I will believe it is Fonseca. Is he the most likely coach for next season? Yes. But only when I see the signature will I say ‘well, it’s him’. It would be a resounding surprise if not.”
