AC Milan are conceding a lot of penalties this season, and the captain Mike Maignan spoke up after the most recent one.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport write (seen below), Maignan’s comments immediately after the match at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma on Sunday night didn’t go unnoticed. His frustration was obvious in his interview with DAZN.

Paying the penalty
Maignan’s frustrations in all likelihood are not just as a result of the penalty in Roma but also Andrea Colombo’s questionable refereeing in general and the other decisions throughout the campaign.
In the, the Rossoneri have had more penalties called against them than any other team in Serie A: seven in total, one more than Napoli and Udinese, but five more than league leaders Inter.
Maignan’s saves on Paulo Dybala and Hakan Calhanoglu limited the damage, and Stanciu’s miss in added time allowed the Rossoneri to avoid defeat against Genoa. However, the figure remains significantly higher than their direct rivals, a detail that hasn’t gone unnoticed at Milanello.
For now, there’s no controversy, just a simple reminder from the coach to his players to avoid certain distractions in their penalty area in the future. The Rossoneri fans, however, have taken certain whistles less politely on social media.
The same goes for the schedule, which from January 2nd to February 15th will see Maignan and his teammates play six away games and three at home. “We’ll play when they tell us to play. It’s certainly unusual, but we can’t help it,” Allegri said.
The reason Milan concede most penalties is because Allegri has the most defensive tactic in the league. Even against smaller teams at home he plays with the same defensive tactics. Inter get most penalties because Inter score more goals and have a way more offensive tactics. Milan got a lot of penalties under pioli because Milan played more attacking football.

when you play against a team like roma, you need to attack them right away bcos we have more attacking potentials more than roma do have, allegri tactics is too frustrating and made milan match too difficult to watch. in midfield we have it more than roma, talk about attack we have it more them even in defense so i don’t he is so defensive against a team he should have beat any day, any time. the consequence of the tactics is that allegri is killing the potentials of our attackers and midfielders
Gasperini hides his teams flaws by going all out attack.. sometimes it work but mostly not. But still the best way to approach his teams is defense and counter. And If I was not for the cheap penalty ot would have worked.
Football is about points and money its not about entertainment anymore.

I understand the frustration of seeing us conceding penalties especially at moment we were winning by 1 goal, but we have to accept that most of the penalties we conceded weren’t really controversial.
Imagine a Roma or Inter player did what Bartesaghi did ? 90% of us would be screaming for the referee’s head right now and talking about corruption.
So far our defenders are doing a good job, but we have to remember that last season these same defenders looked worse than Barcelona’s current defense. Pavlović, Gabbia & Tomori aren’t really world class and many of us did want them gone in the summer while Bartesaghi & Athekame are still green and Estupiñán is a bit dissapointing.
So yeah our defenders have to keep focus for entire games, be aware of their surrounding, time their tackles, be aware of their arms positions,… it’s not easy I know, but it’s essential.
