Photo: Leao reacts to lack of yellow card for Barella after Tomori’s booking

By Isak Möller -

In the dying minutes of the clash between Fiorentina and AC Milan last night, Fikayo Tomori was booked for kicking the ball away. A very cheap yellow card, however, if you compare it with a similar situation courtesy of Inter’s Nicolo Barella.

Tomori let the ball run out of play for a goal kick but once it had passed the line, he kicked it in the opposite direction of Mike Maignan. The referee Fabio Maresca wasn’t having any of it and immediately booked the Englishman.

A cheap yellow card, as we could all see, but this is further strengthened when taking a look at an instance with Nicolo Barella earlier in the season. After the whistle had gone, the midfielder picked up the ball and kicked it far away, but surprisingly he was not booked.

On his Twitter, the game-decider Rafael Leao quoted a tweet highlighting these two incidents with the  “👀” emoji. Indeed, if Tomori’s kick was worthy of a yellow card, then Barella really should have been booked as well.

  1. Well… Think of it this way. Tomori will suffer his suspension now and not two matches later (against Inter). Good.

But still… This just highlights how Inter is being treated differently this season. All the gifted penalties, (winning) goals that should have been canceled and waaay softer treatment regarding yellows & reds. Calcio has decided Inter will win this season and they’re making sure that happens.
