Marco Piccinini has been named the referee for AC Milan’s clash against Parma tomorrow, and after recent controversy, he will surely be under the spotlight.
The refereeing situation in Italy appears to be at a breaking point, with multiple teams getting obvious wrong calls made against them. For Milan, the double yellow for Adrien Rabiot, the red card for Massimiliano Allegri, and the non-punished challenge on Strahinja Pavlovic are just a few examples.

As such, a lot of focus will be on the officiating in Milan’s game against Parma tomorrow, especially considering how important the game is for the Rossoneri. AIA confirmed a few days ago that Marco Piccinini has been assigned to the game.
No controversies despite two red cards
It will be the 42-year-old’s sixth Serie A game of the season, which isn’t a whole lot, and he has also only officiated six games involving Milan in his career: three wins, one draw and two defeats in favour of the Rossoneri.
He has handed out two red cards to Milan in the process. The most recent one was for Santiago Gimenez, in the 3-1 defeat against Roma last season, when the Mexican elbowed Gianluca Mancini in the stomach. After a VAR check, the red was given.
The first one also came after a VAR check, more specifically in Milan’s 1-0 win away at Genoa, when Mike Maignan put in a nasty challenge on Caleb Ekuban. Olivier Giroud finished that game in goal and the Rossoneri ended up winning.
In short, there are no huge controversies in the past when it comes to Piccinini, but it’s also clear that he isn’t the most experienced referee.
