Pioli admits Milan must improve up front but insists Napoli clash is not ‘decisive’

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli spoke to the media ahead of tonight’s big clash against Napoli, hoping to bounce back with a win. He admitted that the Rossoneri need to improve in front of goal, bringing more men into the box.

The Rossoneri are heading into the game with two consecutive losses and will thus be looking to get back to winning ways. Several players are unavailable and Pioli has made just one change to the XI compared to the mid-week clash against PSG (see here).

Speaking to DAZN before the game, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his thoughts on tonight’s task and the Rossoneri’s issues in front of goal. He was also asked about how he will stop Napoli star Kvaratskhelia tonight.

On the reaction needed…

“For us, all the matches are important, an opportunity to demonstrate our value. We are still just in October and in the 10th round, it’s not a decisive match but it’s important and we have prepared for it as such.”

On the goal problem…

“Bringing players into the area is our objective but we must try to dominate the game to do this, to have more superiority in their half of the pitch. Sometimes you can score goals even with just a few players or with individual play. Okafor and Jovic are now well and available”

On how to stop Kvara…

“Napoli are the team that produce the most in the offensive phase. We have to be very careful and compact in the defensive phase, trying to concede as little as possible to high-quality players and Kvara is one of those. We have Florenzi, we have Pellegrino, and Bartesaghi as alternatives. What if Kjaer had been there? I don’t know, the choices came like this,” he stated.

Milan are no longer in second place, due to Juve’s win last night, and Inter’s win earlier this evening has put even more pressure on the Rossoneri. Claiming all three points tonight is almost a must, in other words.
