Tuttosport: Pioli wants to reunite with Atalanta player he had at Fiorentina – agreement close

AC Milan are closing in on their first signing of the 2023 summer window as an agreement with Marco Sportiello is imminent, a report claims.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews) this morning, Sportiello will not renew his contract with Atalanta that expires on June 30, and it is likely he will not have to move far as his future will be at Milan.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been looking for a new deputy goalkeeper for next season given that both Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante’s deals expire next June. Sportiello is the chosen one, and he should arrive on a free.

An agreement between the parties is getting closer and closer as contacts between the management of Milan and his agent Giuseppe Riso are continuous. The feeling is that the 30-year-old will sign a two-year or even a three-year deal, while Stefano Pioli is endorsing the deal as he had him on loan while Fiorentina boss.

Sportiello made 37 appearances as a starter in the 2017-18 season under Pioli with La Viola, and then elected to return to Atalanta where he came through the academy and has been for nine years. Now the pair could meet again at Milanello, but a definitive economic agreement is needed, though it is not far away.
