Pioli happy with ‘character’ of Milan and expects a ‘very motivated’ Jovic – video

After AC Milan’s 2-1 win against Roma, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media and praised his players for their efforts on the pitch. He also shared a few words on the new arrival Luka Jovic, who was signed yesterday.

Milan now have nine points after three games and will head into the international break with a lot of confidence. Speaking to MilanTV (see video below), Pioli explained what they did so well and also spoke about reaching 300 points, as well as Jovic’s arrival.

On the win and the start to the season…

“We approached all three games in a very good way and that’s important, and we tried to control the game how we want to. I believe that we did that, we looked threatening without conceding dangerous chances, which is important.

“I was about to sub off Fik and Ruben because of the bookings and unfortunately, we went down to ten men. However, the group then showed a lot of character, desire and hunger to bring him the three points. Credit to my players.”

On becoming the second Milan manager to reach 300 points…

“I hope I’m only at, I won’t say at the start of my journey, but halfway through it. I’m happy with my players, the club and the fans. We need to continue like this, with the drive to improve and grow.”

On Tomori’s red card…

“I must say that Fik was having a great game, reading it well and also building from the back. He has the great quality of being aggressive and fast, but I agree with you that he needs to understand sometimes when to make a move on a player. I’m sorry we won’t have him available for the next game but I’m happy that he’s been called up for England.”

On Jovic…

“He was part of a group of players we had been keeping an eye on, then the transfer window presents you with certain situations. In my opinion, he comes off the back of a tough season at Fiorentina, but he’s a talented player. I’ve spoken with him, I expected a very motivated player who is happy to be with us.”

Milan will take on Inter after the international break and the Rossoneri will be looking to continue their great start to the season. Certainly with three wins in three games, there is less pressure on them heading into the derby.

  1. Pioli is lying lol He knows very well he wasn’t going to sub them. Secondly, he is lying about keeping their eyes on Jovic. However, congratulations to the 300 points coach hehehe

  2. As long as we don’t lose till we meet Napoli… 4th round is a good time for us to bring Inter to their knees… and then we’ll see what happens next!
