Pioli claims he is in ‘the right place at the right time’ to win a trophy; discusses ‘Normal One’ nickname

Stefano Pioli has revealed his belief that he is now at the ‘right place’ to win his first trophy as a manager.

Milan were able to extend their unbeaten league run to 22 games and also their lead atop the Serie A table to five points with a comfortable victory on Sunday evening against Sampdoria, and they topped their Europa League group thanks to last night’s win over Sparta Praha.

Looking at the top five European leagues – Italy, France, Spain, Germany and England – no other team has the points average this season that the Rossoneri do apart from Atletico Madrid, with fans and pundits slowly beginning to think something special could be unfolding.

Pioli spoke to Sportweek, a weekly programme every Saturday by La Gazzetta dello Sport, and an excerpt has been released. He began by discussing his nickname as ‘The Normal One’.

“If by ‘normal’ we mean someone who always wants to grow and improve, then I am. And I deserve everything I have, because there I put a lot of passion,” he said.

“Why still no trophy? You need to have the right team. So far it hasn’t happened to me, but at Milan I’m in the right place at the right time.”
