As we have learned through our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, the Rossoneri head coach feels that he could use Adli as a wild card to solve some shortcomings in the current Milan squad that have appeared in the current season, given the versatility and quality of the 21-year-old
The background
Frederic Massara has accelerated the talks with Bordeaux last summer by granting them the chance to have him back on loan until the end of the season, thus enabling the Rossoneri to seal a deal worth €10m in total.
It satisfied both sides because the Ligue 1 club were not forced to deprive themselves of a fundamental element during for the season ahead, while Milan were able to leave him in comfort zone to grow further.
Pioli gets to work
Pioli is carrying on with his task which is to watch evolution of Adli ahead of next season next season. The Frenchman will have to address at least two potential problems of the team in terms of quantity and quality.
The probable departure of Frank Kessie frees up a place in the midfield, and Adli knows how to play the mezzala role well, but if necessary this season he has also played roles as an attacking midfielder and as a right winger.
The flexibility of the Bordeaux player could push Milan to invest in other areas of the pitch, because at the moment the priority is to replace Kessie and the departing Castillejo, then the club will eventually think about looking for a left-back and a replacement for Romagnoli (if he were to leave).
