Pioli confident ahead of season opener: “It’s the strongest Milan that I’ve had”

Stefano Pioli is preparing for AC Milan’s season opener away at Sampdoria tomorrow, convinced that his side can start the campaign in the best way possible. And he’s got a very good side at his disposal.

The Rossoneri had a very good 2020/21 season and the pressure is now on to replicate that achievement. In addition to Serie A, they will also compete in the Champions League and the goal is to make it out of the group, at least.

During today’s press conference, on the eve of the clash against Sampdoria, Pioli was asked if this is the strongest Milan side he has had at his disposal. It’s his third year in charge of the team and you can agree with his answer.

“I think it’s the strongest AC Milan that I’ve had. I have found players who have grown in awareness, such as Tonali and Rafa who are more mature and strong players. We are still missing someone like Ibrahimovic and Kessie, out with an injury. Florenzi arrived yesterday and Bennacer is still a bit behind in the game condition.

“We are a strong group and if we combine humility and determination we will be able to have a great season. We will have to try to win every single match and try to have a good season, knowing that there are strong teams. We will then have the Champions League where we want to be protagonists,” he stated.

Hopefully, Milan will get the job done tomorrow as they are the clear favourites to win, despite the absences of Franck Kessie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But the replacements will have to step up.
