Pioli confirms Milan want another centre-back: “The directors are working”

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan recently brought back Matteo Gabbia from his loan in Spain due to the injury crisis, and they most likely won’t stop there. As confirmed by Stefano Piol during today’s press conference, the Rossoneri are looking for another centre-back.

The likes of Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori are all on the sidelines and this has made life rather difficult for Pioli. The early return of Gabbia from Villarreal is a boost, and the Italian is set to start against Roma tomorrow, but another centre-back signing is on the cards.

As confirmed by Pioli during his pre-match presser earlier today, Milan are indeed looking to sign another centre-back. The intention is there, in other words, but it remains to be seen if Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani will find the right profile.

“Another defender? The directors are working to fill this need. Gabbia has arrived, Terracciano has arrived, we have sorted our difficulties a bit but we are certainly still missing a defender,” he stated.

Brest’s Lilian Brassier is one of the top targets for the position, as per a report, and the Rossoneri are pondering a €10m offer for the player. For now, though, Pioli will rely on Simon Kjaer and Gabbia for the position.

  1. Playing a RB(terraciano) as a LB , a LB (theo) as a CB ,and a CB(simic) as a RB ,was just a master plan by genius pioli in last match !!! Its called piolitation which become from a word rotation from rotating players positions on the field!! Not everyone can understand that.

  2. Just get him, if he is that good, before another Serie A team does. Kjaer and Gabbia are not fully back in shape. We still have a lot of games before Tomori and Thiaw come back.

  3. More idiocy. Barteshagi, Simic and Terraciano can play CB so why is another CB needed with 3 other players due to return in the next month or so?

  4. Our management team is embarrassing. Let’s sign 50 CB’s BUT no striker despite Giroud being 38 and Jovic still wildly inconsistent. Oh that’s right I forgot Jovic scored 2 goals in Coppa Italia game so we are good lol.

We have no vision. Seems like now we have no project. We are just living off the remnants of our title winning year with management trying to squeeze out every last drop without having to invest heavily (without selling star players). A club that wants to win TITLES doesn’t just look for bargain deals or only young players that still need time to develop. They go after players that can help us win now. We are officially Atalanta just with different colors.

    1. Okafor, Leao, Puli, Giroud, Jovic, sprinkle in some random midfielder goals. Play the odds. They will carry us to the summer. Then they can address the striker issue.

  5. This is insane again! Simic is a freacking wall! Only blind does not see this. But no, we buy another CB so we will have 8 of them so we can sell our grown talent. Such morons!

  6. Perhaps our defense would be better served by putting a good DM in front of them!

Why on earth do we need a CB???

    Kjaer
    Gabbia
    Simic
    Pellegrino
    Theo
    All available and ready

    Thiaw
    Kalulu
    Tomori
All coming back in the next month

We have 4 weeks of just Serie A
We have plenty of cover at CB

    1. Just to clarify, we start 2 center backs

In midfield where we start 3 players we have
      RLC
      Musah
      Reijnders
      Adli
      Available

Bennacer will be back next month (baring an injury)
      Pobega out long term
      Krunic gone to Turkey

      Get the priorities straight.
Numerically we are much thinner in midfield than defense
Also in terms of quality, anybody who watches this team can see they have no control in midfield (with managers of Dortmund and PSG saying playing us was like a basketball game)
All we have is runners, no guile or composure.

    2. Because Kjaer will retire.
Because Gabbia will go back out on loan.
Because Simic won’t break the first team
Because Pellegrino is clearly not ready.
Because using Theo out of position nullifies the speed and forward push down the left.

Because while we wait for the starters to return, what happens if there are more injuries?

      Because better safe than sorry.

      1. Kjaer and Gabbia are here until end of season, Simić is doing great and is mature enough for first team. Theo showed class playing as CB and they also have coverage on the flanks now with Jimenez, Bartesaghi and Terracciano. Tomori, Kalulu and Thiaw are few weeks away from returning.

I wouldn’t mind having another CB on loan for the timebeing. But not as permanent signing. That’s something that should be addressed in the summer if Kjaer and Gabbia actually leave.

      2. As above we have 5 players available who can cover those 2 positions, thats fine until the starters return.

        Next season
        Thiaw
        Tomori
        Kalulu
        Gabbia
        Simic or Pellegrino

Is a very fine roster to have and no need for more.
The more we sign the less happy our current players will be. I don’t want to see Kalulu leave due to lack of opportunity nor Simic for that matter

      3. I think IF we sign a player like the kid from Brest it means we will sell a CB like Tomori or Thiaw.

Next season even if Kajer leaves/retires – we will have Gabbia, Thiaw Kalulu and Brassier and then there is Simic and Pellegrino. 6 total – Tomori is 7.

Smell the roses gents….a sale is coming in the summer.

  7. I can boldly say furlani, moncada and other are jark head without Maldini.

Turning Almight Milan to what Arsenal used to be. Buying no name French players at cheap rate to resale with profit without winning titles
