Pioli confirms Milan ‘are not looking’ for a Calhanoglu type to reinforce playmaker role

By Isak Möller -

Hakan Calhanoglu parted ways with AC Milan at the beginning of the summer and decided to sign for city rivals Inter. And while the Rossoneri are looking for a new playmaker, they are not looking for a similar type.

During today’s press conference, on the eve of the clash between Milan and Sampdoria, Stefano Pioli was asked about the situation regarding the playmaker role. With just over a week left of the transfer window, they are yet to find a new player.

This question was fueled by the fact that Calhanoglu scored one goal and assisted another in Inter’s opener against Genoa yesterday. Pioli, however, made it clear that they are not looking for a Hakan-esque type for the role.

Calhanoglu was the protagonist with Inter. Is the need for a playmaker even more evident?

“We are not looking for a similar player but we want to improve the team. The club is very present and if there is the possibility of intervening, the management will intervene. We already have players who can give ideas in the complicated moments of a match.”

The game between Milan and Sampdoria is scheduled for 20:45 CEST and will take place at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa. The Rossoneri, of course, want to start the season in the best way possible.

Bruh he clearly says we are looking for a hakan replacement the only difference is that we are not looking at a similar player

I think brahim will be better than last season, dead ball situation is the only thing missing from calhamerda. Hope theo will fill the hole

Sandro and Kjaer have also been trained for that role.

Makes complete sense. I expect the team to play much faster. Calhanoglu was very deliberate and lacked pace. Diaz is a faster decision making and faster in general.

I still see a gaping hole on the right wing with no real plan to fix it. Saelemaekers seems much more industrious and we need a more complete attacking option over there.

    1. Savicevic says:

Diaz was decent in the friendly matches. Let’s give him a chance to prove it

  4. Savicevic says:

Unfortunately, at least until next January, the RW is what it is. Probably, step by step, Florenzi will take over from Salamaekers.
