Pioli admits Milan were ‘demoralised’ after conceding twice as he picks out failings vs. Torino – video

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has blamed a lack of composure in the early stage of the game after his side lost 2-1 against Torino.

Milan conceded twice in quick succession as an unmarked Djidji headed a free-kick past Ciprian Tatarusanu and Aleksei Miranchuk beat him with a low shot that took a slight deflection. Junior Messias did get one back in the second half but no big chances were created to generate an equaliser.

Pioli spoke to Milan TV after the game to discuss his side’s performance and the damaging scoreline, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On the game: “The results are decided in the penalty area. We weren’t lucid at the start of the match, then the two goals complicated the match. The desire to recover was seen, we tried, but it wasn’t our best evening.”

On the missed comeback: “The two-goal lead gave Torino more conviction. We started well in the second half too, we tried to the end but we weren’t precise.”

On the team: “The two close goals have demoralised us. We tried to react but we weren’t incisive and technically clean.”

On the attack: “Dribbling from behind was not easy, they pressed well. The four in front had to move better, we went a little too deep.”

  1. It’s time to think of buying more versatile attacking players , especially for right wing. Cannot depends on leao alone. Our attacking strategy is easily read by opponents. Or try to explore vranck as an amf and cdk on the right. Just my two cents

    1. Midfield should have creative people as well. Tonali, Bennacer & Pobega aren’t creative. And no, bringing in Kessie wouldn’t change anything as he’s even worse.

Try Vranckx and/or Adli. They might have a trick or two in their sleeves. At least Adli has vision and great passing skills. That’s what’s needed to break solid defenses.

  2. The difference between Milan and Napoli is they have more faith in their players, and are not afraid to use them, it really baffles me why Pioli refuses to give the other fringe players a chance, that’s why the team is drained and out of ideas, then for Gods sake, why would u remove Leao when he was ok, he should have removed Messias instead, forget the goal he scored, he did nothing in that match, he needs to try rotating the squad…

  3. “why would u remove Leao when he was ok”

But the FACT is that he wasn’t “OK”. He wasn’t in the game at all – after those horrible, horrible misses.

  4. Da a što bi bilo u drugom poluvremenu ??? Možda bi se iskupio za greške u prvom !! Teško da bi opet bio loš jer on jedini može vratit rezultat na egal ! Ovi što su ušli znao sam da to ne mog napravit !!
