Pioli explains why Castillejo hasn’t played lately but adds: “Now he’s better”

Samu Castillejo has only played 122 minutes all season and that has been questioned by some fans amid AC Milan’s right-wing struggles. During today’s press conference, Stefano Pioli explained why this has been the case.

The Spaniard, who arrived from Villarreal back in 2018, has never been a key player for Milan but on occasion, he has done well. With both Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers underperforming, many have urged Pioli to play Castillejo instead.

Unfortunately, Castillejo has never been fully fit in the last few months and this was confirmed by Pioli during today’s press conference, which you can read in full here. This has prevented the winger from getting minutes.

“He had some physical problems that, in the last period, prevented him from training continuously. Now he’s better and available,” he stated.

It remains to be seen if the Spaniard will get a few minutes before the season is over, with just five games remaining for the Rossoneri. A lot will obviously depend on the performances of Messias and Saelemaekers, who are slightly ahead right now.

  1. If Messias and Saelemaekers are currently ahead of him, then nothing is better about him. He’s just going to add to the 0 players on the RW as we have right now.
