Pioli admits he and the Milan team are furious after Messias incident: “I tried to calm the players down”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli couldn’t hide his anger as his side fell victim to a dreadful officiating display and lost to Spezia in the final seconds at San Siro on Monday evening.

Milan were stunned in the final minute by lowly Spezia as they won for the first time ever at San Siro thanks to a last minute goal from Emmanuel Gyasi, who completed a second half comeback for the Ligurian side after Kevin Agudelo had cancelled out Rafael Leao’s opener.

There was an absolutely baffling moment in added time though as Junior Messias thumped the ball into the top corner only to find out the referee blew less than a second before for a foul on Ante Rebic, therefore not playing advantage.

Pioli spoke to DAZN after the game and expressed his confusion and rage that such a decision was made given that it cost his side not only the win but also a point as well given Spezia would go on and score in the final seconds.

“I tried to calm the players down and I couldn’t, but I couldn’t. We knew we had been wronged. Too bad, the responsibilities are ours for the goal conceded, but they must be shared with the referee. Strange, because he had never whistled half-fouls. We didn’t have to be just 1-0 up in the first half, we had chances to win it. A bad evening,” he said (via MilanNews).

“When you create 7-8 scoring chances, it means that you are in the game. Provedel made many saves. We had some difficulties in the second half, but we had the situations to win it. And then we lost it.

“We missed an opportunity. We weren’t able to take a win we wanted and we need to think about the next match. Everyone can have a bad day and we have to get back to running fast.”

On Bakayoko and Krunic: “We built with Baka between the lines. It is a fact that they did not have the perfect mechanisms at all. After such a defeat it is good to have heavy games like Juventus and Inter that will help us to get back up.

“After such a negative match in terms of the result and how it came about, we have to react. We didn’t deserve defeat. We have to do better on the first goal conceded. Matches can also be won 1-0.”

  1. Nonsense!! Foolish excuses!!! We wasted too many chances! Zlatan with his soul called foolish experiences he’s got, still wasted chances like an upcoming player. Who gives a fuck about his flicks?!!! Bakayoko should better go back to Chelsea, and Krunic isn’t Milan’s level in anyway!! I fucking hate those two in our midfield!! LEAO’s talent is wasted if he can’t make good use of his chances! I regret watching this match tonight! Difficult to go to bed after this abysmal result from these set of foolish players!!

    1. Balance football out

There was some article that showed too much football mays you too nervous etc. Like a junkie

Its entertainment, very addicting, but its just a game
And there will be many beautiful games yet. We just had one vs Roma.

But i also will be happier without Messias, Baka and Krunic (if we can get some cash for him)
I will be happy with 2nd spot.

This team needs to stay hungry to win more later. I do not see this hunger often from Theo, Leao. They disappear in games sometimes and are not yet consistent.
But i hope we win coppa at least. Inter deserves scudetto they are too strong. This summer is key if we aim to go high up in CL in 2-3 years or wait for Tonali Kalulu to grow up.

  2. What a useless play tonight..the management should buy better players and stop depending or believing on all this below average players..this is a hood bye to the scudeto..cause I don’t see inter losing point any time from now…nonsense upon rubbish…

  3. Some decent play and bad luck today. Credit to Spezia GK. Nice to see Calabria back, hitting the ground running. He’s a difference maker.

          1. the display wasnt bad. except baka and brahim werent good. i was enjoying the game just the keeper didnt wanted milan to win but 2-1 was surely a win for us. But i can say scudetto is 32% for me dont get angry.

  4. Pioli
    You are idiot too
You have to close game early with this mother fucker. You are such idiot.
    You let so many points
    Spezia is seria C1. Idiot

    1. You can imagine the mess, he was removing his best players, leaving 75ages striker on the field against young defenders, I don’t even know why messias in,he got in an all attack got Dead. Big mess, this why am always Missing Gatuso, he gonna create a problem for VAR to be reviewed

  5. Our team and coaching staff are too quiet, they create far in the heart of this poor officiating, same thing all time, just has the UCL matches, apology is just medicine after death, VAR has to be fine.

Silent board /administrator we got, this don’t get repeated on other bigger clubs…

  6. To be honest, Pioli was at err here. He shouldn’t have brought Messias to early in the second half. The reason is that saelemakers was playing well and helping the midfielders to by applying pressure. Messias came in and the press was lost. He lost too many balls and wasn’t defending properly. This shows you he has a very long way to go professional wise in reading games.
Overall, Pioli should have been patient before rushing to make substitutions
