Pioli discusses his future with Milan: “When the time comes the club will decide”

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has said that the club will make a decision on his future when the time is right, choosing instead to focus on the job in hand.

Speaking to DAZN (via Milan News) ahead of the match against Frosinone on Saturday afternoon, the Italian coach was asked about the constant rumours that link Milan with other coaches come the end of the current season.

Naturally, Pioli said that he lives in the moment and prepares for each game as it comes, rather than thinking too much about the bigger picture.

“I concentrate on preparing for the matches, every coach must try to motivate as best he can and prepare for the match at the tactical level in the best way possible, to prepare the players for what the challenge will be,” Pioli explained.

He also explained that there is a great relationship in place between him and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is now a special advisor and is thought to have some sway over Pioli’s future as the Milan coach.

“Between Zlatan and me and the club there is great respect, when the time is right the club will decide, we will decide. Now we are just focused on what we have to do for the rest of the season, it’s still a long season,” he said.

Milan have seen their form improve in recent weeks which helped to ease some of the pressure on Pioli, but the distance between the Rossoneri and league leaders Inter means that the title race already looks beyond them.

Many view this as a failure given the summer investment, so thoughts have already turned to next season and whether Pioli has done as much as he can with the team.
