Pioli gives intriguing response to Rangnick rumours: “I do not feel like a sacrificial victim”

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has insisted he will continue to work with ‘passion and professionalism’ amid speculation suggesting his fate is already sealed.

We reported via our correspondent Vito Angele on Thursday evening that Rangnick will indeed agree a role as manager – that is the double responsibility of head coach and the man in charge of the transfer market.

La Repubblica (via MilanLive) went big on Wednesday by claiming that confirmations about Rangnick’s arrival at San siro arrived from the Red Bull headquarters in Salzburg.

With the speculation continuing to whirr around in the air, it is no doubt beginning to have some kind of a distracting impact upon Pioli and the squad, regardless of what is otherwise said.

This was arguable seen in Milan’s 2-2 draw against 10-man, bottom of the league SPAL on Wednesday night as a 94th minute own-goal was the only way the Rossoneri could rescue a point.

After the game the Milan boss spoke to Sky Italia, and his words were transcribed by MilanNews. He was questioned about his future and specifically the Ralf Rangnick rumours.

“I am working with passion and professionalism, I love these players, they are giving me a lot, I do not have the thought and the shadow of another coach, it will be what it will be,” he said.

“There are still many games, at Milanello I am happy, we are working well. The choices will be made in the end, I am not anxious and I do not feel like a sacrificial victim, I am proud to train these players.”
