Pioli gives thanks to fans after Spurs win: “They never abandoned us” – video

Stefano Pioli praised the fans for their unwavering support after last night’s win against Spurs at San Siro in the Champions League.

It has been a difficult last month for Milan in terms of results, but the 1-0 wins against Torino and Tottenham in the last few days have raised spirits and hopefully put the team back on track in the two objectives remaining, namely a top four finish and a quarter-final spot in the Champions League

Pioli spoke to Milan TV at the end of last night’s game to reflect on another memorable night at home.

“I appreciated all of the fans, even the initial banner. They never abandoned us in a month where we conceded so many goals and lost some important matches. Congratulations to them and to the team. We did something important against a great team,” he said.

On Giroud’s performance: “That’s how you have to play at certain levels. We can’t have someone standing still. We did well and spent a lot of energy. We have to play like this. We’re coming back, we have to insist and continue. We played a good game and we’ll also bet a lot on the second leg.”

On the return leg: “The morale was what it was before Torino. We are a very responsible group. I kept repeating to the team that we were in the right place at the right time.

“With a crowd like this, we could not have played a sluggish game. Now let’s think about Saturday. We’ll arrive at the Champions League prepared. I expected a match like this, in the second leg it will be exactly the same.”
