Pioli honest after Udinese defeat: “I didn’t prepare the team well” – video

By Isak Möller -

After the disappointing 1-0 loss against Udinese, Stefano Pioli admitted that he didn’t prepare AC Milan well enough for the clash. He also made it clear that the fans were right to whistle and boo the team at full-time.

Udinese took the lead in the second half after a controversial penalty decision, but most fans didn’t care about that as Milan looked incredibly poor themselves. In his post-match interview with MilanTV (see the video below), Pioli admitted that he needed to do a better job with the preparation.

On the game…

“We struggled. The longer the match went on, the more we struggled and lost our cool. After going behind there was still time to get back into it, the team did their best but it wasn’t our best performance. It was below our usual level, we need an instant upturn in form.”

“We knew that it would be tough against an organised team, we knew we wouldn’t have many chances. As always, moments decide games but I repeat: we cannot latch onto these things. We just need to do better.”

On the fans whistling…

“The fans were right, because the performance wasn’t there tonight. They whistled at me and they were right because it meant I didn’t prepare the team well. They are used to better performances. The fans hope to applaud us and to see us play in a certain way, today we didn’t do that.”

  1. Please let’s sign Endrick before Real Madrid takes him.

  2. I’d rather bring Enrico del Prato rather than kiwior. Always wasting money on less average players. We also need proper Italian identity for success.

  3. He was given too much power and became arrogant. There was no need for such drastic change to the team, system and formation in the summer. Simple.

  4. I just get angrier after I listen to this Pioli talk after matches. Can we find another manager before another season of goes by and we achieve nothing again. I’m tired.

  5. Pioli finally realised what everyone else knew – all the Serie A teams have worked out has one/dimensional caching ‘style’ – he should have gone in January

  6. Pioli needs to be sacked quickly so that Bonera and Zlatan can get this desperate team back into the game. There’s no time to lose!

  7. Yep. It’s 99% your fault Pioli. You setup a 4-4-2, made them play like a 4-2-3-1, especially in the midfield. Of course they got confused

  8. “I didn’t prepare the team well.”

You don’t say??? Why the **** didn’t you? You got one job. ONE! FFS… Start earning your f*ng paycheck already or GTFO!
