Pioli: “I find it hard to talk about the team’s fluctuating performances” – video

Stefano Pioli has insisted that he is happy with how his team played during what was a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Torino at San Siro last night.

In the end a goal from Olivier Giroud in the 14th minute was enough to settle a cagey affair during which neither team generated many scoring chances at all, and the win is enough for the Rossoneri to go top for the time being and to make it nine victories from their first ten league games this season.

Pioli spoke to Milan TV after the game against the Granata and offered his thoughts on the win, with MilanNews relaying his comments.

“We knew it was going to be a complicated match. We expected a match like this, in the first half we controlled. I’m happy with how the team played,” he said.

“I find it hard to talk about the team’s fluctuating performances. There may be suffering from time to time. When you don’t concede a goal, it is easier to win games. The work that the forwards do is also important. test of the boys.

“Tomorrow morning we will meet immediately at Milanello to prepare for the next match. Then there will be time to rest for someone. Many are now in the national team, then they come back and I immediately ask them for the best. It’s not easy.

“We wanted to start with Leao more open and take advantage of his one on one. But we struggled to dribble from behind and so I preferred to bring Leao and Saele closer to Giroud. The two midfielders could move more, perhaps to empty more their midfield.

“We are more mature and we read the moments of the match better. And then there are the fans who give us a great hand. The credit for our results is also theirs, the fans are helping us a lot.”
