Pioli impressed with ‘disciplined’ Pellegrino: “He can also play as a left-back”

Pioli and Pellegrino

Marco Pellegrino arrived at AC Milan towards the end of the summer window in a permanent move from Platense. The youngster is yet to make his debut but Stefano Pioli is impressed with what he has seen.

Milan reached an agreement with the Argentine side at around €3m plus bonuses, wrapping up the move quickly after letting Matteo Gabbia leave for Villarreal. As Pellegrino is just 21 years old and left-footed, many believe the Rossoneri got a great deal.

The centre-back has been working with the team for a few weeks now and during the pre-derby press conference, Stefano Pioli was asked about his first impressed. The manager had only good things to say about his new centre-back.

“Marco is an attentive, disciplined and aggressive defender. He needs time to understand certain things, he used to play in a back three. He can also play as a left-back, I’ve also tested him there in recent days,” he stated.

Simon Kjaer, along with Malick Thiaw, will play from start against Inter tomorrow and Pellegrino will be the only option off the bench. Pierre Kalulu is out with an injury and Fikayo Tomori is suspended, meaning there’s a chance (albeit remote) that we will get to see the Argentine.
