GdS: From Sacchi to Ancelotti – Pioli draws inspiration from the great Milan sides

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will soon reach another milestone with the club and he has learned a bit from each of the managers before him, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it) writes how the game between Milan and Bologna one week today will be a crucial challenge for the Scudetto race, but also because Pioli will hit 100 league matches in charge of Milan.

Between now and May, Pioli’s tally will rise to 107 games which will put him 13th on the list of Milan managers in terms of most league games amassed. At the end of next season he would be up to 145 games and thus the former Fiorentina and Inter coach would be only 10 games away from Arrigo Sacchi, leaving Max Allegri behind him.

Among the big names who made history on the bench, almost all of them have sewn the Scudetto on the chest of the Rossoneri shirt. From Capello to Nereo Rocco, passing through Gipo Viani and Liedholm.

Pioli’s Milan tries stealing a few little secrets from everyone as per the newspaper, with the spirit, unity and quality of football among the main winning characteristics of this team. This team are a modern, aggressive Milan that gets results based on the game they play, like Sacchi’s sides.

Not only that, there is also mental solidity and pragmatism which we saw from Capello, while Pioli wants his team to have style and elegance like the great sides of Liedholm. There is also some Ancelotti too, as Pioli is also succeeding in the goal of being a head coach that the club proudly exports around the world.
