MN: Pioli ready to use Kessie in an advanced role against Napoli – the reasons

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is considering fielded Franck Kessie as an attacking midfielder for the third time this season in the game against Napoli, a report claims.

MilanNews report how after two consecutive games played in the double pivot which came after he started on the bench against Sampdoria and Salernitana, Kessie could be start again but as the most advanced midfielder.

There are two reasons that should push Pioli to use this tactical variant again. The first is the quality of the options available, with Brahim Diaz and Rade Krunic both not in the best form, and the second is down to necessity because dropping either of Sandro Tonali or Ismael Bennacer is simply not an option at the moment.

The idea of fielding Kessie as an attacking midfielder is not new as he played there in the 4-2 win against Empoli before Christmas and in the recent league derby, and it is a sign that Pioli wants to rely on the Ivorian, despite the fact he is not intending to renew his contract with Milan which expires on 30 June 2022.

  1. We have all seen how Inter destroyed us in the first half, with Kessie playing there. Makes sense to go with it again. 😀
