Pioli labels Leao as ‘intelligent’ and discusses his ‘great potential’

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has said that Rafael Leao is an intelligent person and he has great potential to get even better in the future.

Speaking during an interview with Sky Sport (via Milan News) on the night before the Champions League quarter-final second-leg match against Napoli, Pioli was asked specifically about the Portuguese star.

He has been enduring a tough season in the midst of heated contract talks which are still ongoing, but Pioli explained that the player has no issue with the fans and he will have to stay in the game on Tuesday night.

“He’s an intelligent boy and he’s fine at AC Milan, he’s fine with the fans. He has great potential and can invent something at any time. He will have to stay in the game with a lot of attention,” Pioli said.

When talking about what it is like to be at this stage of the Champions League, Pioli used the Eiffel Tower as an analogy for how it feels.

“It’s nice to be here, it’s a path of continuous growth. It’s like when you visit the Eiffel Tower and on the second floor you already have a beautiful view, but you want to go up again to have an even more beautiful one,” Pioli explained.

Milan won the first leg 1-0 thanks to a strike from Ismael Bennacer. With Victor Osimhen back for Napoli, there will be an even greater threat from the home side to contend with.
