Pioli responds to Leao renewal question and confirms positions of Rebic and Origi

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli confirmed that Divock Origi will play on the wing during this evening’s game against Spezia, and also seemingly confirmed that Rafael Leao’s renewal is done.

Given the injury problems and the precarious nature of the top four race there is not much opportunity for Pioli to rotate, but he has fielded Alexis Saelemaekers, Origi and Rebic in attack while Tommaso Pobega enters the midfield and Pierre Kalulu is the right-back.

Pioli spoke to DAZN before the game and he was asked about his selection choices particularly in attack where both Rebic and Origi are starting.

“Origi will play on the left with Rebic as the centre-forward. There are absences, but the team is motivated and prepared for this important match,” he said (via MilanNews).

Did you send any message?

“There’s no need to stimulate, this is the finale of the season. We’re very motivated and determined, we’ll have to play as we know how.”

According to virtually all major sources, Leao’s contract extension has been agreed and next week he is expected to put pen on paper before the official announcement that he has renewed until June 2028.

Could Leao’s renewal bring some serenity?

“Rafa is serene and determined, let’s hope he can recover from the injury. The renewal has been talked about for a long time, it won’t change the team’s mood. We’re fighting for the season.”

    1. I always thought Pioli was a mediocre coach and poor tactician, but he’s also a very dumb person. And I bet he still doesn’t get fired even though he failed to achieve our minimum objective of 4th place. Good luck signing any decent players without CL.

      1. Lol, good luck retaining players first. We have been hearing news about Leao agreeing to a deal. In the coming days, we will hear for sure that he isn’t going to sign it.

  1. Next season there won’t be a need to rest anyone since Milan will not be in champions league and we have never valued Europa league.
Was it really Pioli who has been the difference maker because Milan’s dominance started with Ibra’s arrival and it ended once Ibra stopped playing regularly.

    1. Once we lost Ibra and Kessie, Pioli’s incompetence was exposed. Also, Napoli, Juve, Inter and Lazio are all much better than last year, so his luck ran out. He was never a real Scudetto level manager.

      1. So we should all agree that cardinale is one who run out of luck from Elliott.

Elliott had so much luck, that Cardinale is in deep shiii* now. So deep, that he will lose all strings in next year, when his revenue dropps from 350 to near 250 mill.

Bit, for us as a fans, the best is for Milan to arrive next owner. Owner who is capable of running big club and brand.

        1. I don’t think so. Since Milan won’t get CL next season, many players may want to leave including Leao and since Cardinale is only worried about positive bank balance, they will probably sell those players and earn profit and sell the club.

  2. Embarrassing to watch! There is no excuse for this misery that Pioli has engrossed us into. I will be extremely disappointed if he is not fired due to us not meeting the minimum objective of the season to finish in Top 4. There is no excuse for playing this badly against teams like Empoli, Cremonese and Spezia.

  3. There were talks Juve will be given a 9 point deduction. Even if that happens and Juve wins this round, they will only be a point behind Milan. From this, you can understand how bad the season has been for Milan.

  4. Almost 1/2 years and we are still speaking about Leak’s renewal, closing our eyes in the real problems of the team.
In the meantime Milan will has lost the Scudetto, has been eliminated in the Coppa Italia, lost the Super Cup, in danger of losing next years CL positions….And again the main topic is Leao…..

  5. I am sensing an embarrassment in our next match against Inter. Probably we should forfeit the game to avoid that.
