Pioli believes Milan ‘commanded the game with little risk’ in landmark win – video

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has admitted that his side took a very big step forward by registering their first Champions League win at home under his tutelage.

The Rossoneri took top spot in Group E as goals from Olivier Giroud (penalty), Alexis Saelemaekers and Tommaso Pobega were enough to overcome Dinamo Zagreb at San Siro on Wednesday night.

Pioli spoke to the microphones of Milan TV at the end of the game against Dinamo to reflect on the performance, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

On securing a first home victory in the Champions League: “We lacked this box of a home win in the Champions League. We didn’t do it last year so we were very motivated. We always commanded the game with little risk. I would have preferred a few more goals and to have not conceded. Many positive things but as always something to fix. It is right that this is the case for the season we are experiencing.”

On the attitude: “I liked the team in the approach and in the desire to play the game. We played with personality and with the right mentality. The team is playing with maturity, it suffers, it struggles. It has a tactical identity, it has a soul. Match after match, training after training we have to grow even more if we can do it.”

On the next match against Napoli: “Napoli are also playing tonight. They are doing very well and we are a great team too. We will have the chance to play this match well, with some absences, but we have the right characteristics to field a competitive team.”
