Pioli relishing chance to play in an ‘adrenaline-filled and electrifying atmosphere’ – video

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli knows the difficulties that AC Milan face on Wednesday night against Borussia Dortmund, a team with a very good home record.

Milan make the trip to the Signal Iduna Park tomorrow hoping to get their first win of the 2023-24 Champions League group stages after they opened the campaign with a 0-0 draw at home against Newcastle United.

Pioli spoke to Milan TV at Milanello this morning before leaving for Germany and the interview was published on the club’s social media channels this afternoon.

“We try to prepare everything because it’s the Champions League: every little detail is important. It’s equally true that we will immerse ourselves in an adrenaline-filled and electrifying atmosphere but this could also serve to help us enter the game well. What matters in the end the end is to play well,” he said.

“Dortmund? A team that have impressive home numbers. In the Bundesliga they haven’t lost for a year, in the Champions League for even two.

“We know very well the difficulties we will encounter, a technical team but at the same time energetic and intense. A high-level performance will be needed It won’t be decisive yet but important, yes.

“It will be a balanced group: every single match becomes very important. For this reason we will try to put in our best possible performance, also because we were unable to win at home in the first match. Obtaining a positive result will be important.

“This is the basis of a competitive and demanding season like we have. I think maintaining a level of availability, attention and performance from all the players is very important. There are some absences but it happens when you really play a lot, absolutely too much. But we will be ready.”
