Pioli insists Milan ‘played our game’ against Roma and looks ahead – video

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan clinched one point away at Roma last night and even though it was a spectacular ending, the Rossoneri believe they lost two crucial points. After the game, Stefano Pioli spoke about this.

The manager, speaking to MilanTV (see video below), insisted that Milan played their game but also admitted that they lacked the final product. It’s not something that will bring them down, though, he made sure to clarify.

On the game…

“Honestly, we expected a game like tonight’s. Difficult, rough and with plenty of fouls. There wasn’t enough active playing time, too many interruptions. It made it harder to find a rhythm and find the right spaces. Still, we could have done better. We played our game, we were in control, but we lacked quality in the final third.”

On the late equaliser…

“Mentally, it’s worth a lot, but there wasn’t much enthusiasm in the locker room. It was a game we could have won. We must improve for our next game. We can only hope that this will be an essential point at the end of the season.”

On the goal conceded…

“We lost a bit of mental clarity in the final minutes. When that happens, you rush things or you take an extra touch. We faced the game with the right mentality but we lacked the right plays in the final third, as said.”

On momentum…

“We don’t need added momentum. We know that the coming games will decide our season. The next 20 days are crucial. We have five league games left and the Champions League semis. We don’t need an added boost to know what this means.”

Milan will face Cremonese on Wednesday and it’s a must-win for the Rossoneri ahead of the important game against Lazio at the weekend.
