Pioli says Milan have ‘prepared well’ for Genoa clash and explains XI choices

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Genoa, Stefano Pioli spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s situation. They could head into the international break as league leaders thanks to Inter’s draw earlier today.

Simone Inzaghi’s men were held to a 2-2 draw by Bologna and tonight’s clash against Genoa is thus a golden opportunity for Stefano Pioli’s men. However, the latter havenät had much time to rest since the game against Dortmund on Wednesday.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his thoughts on the tight schedule and also explained his selection in the starting XI. For example, Rafael Leao is benched and Luka Jovic plays from start.

On the schedule…

“We are used to this schedule, we have prepared well for the match on a mental level. Our opponents are strong and aggressive, they have put great teams in difficulty. All the matches weigh, the season is very demanding, and it’s important to give everything in any match.”

On the XI selection…

“It’s the best solution to have a good impact on the match. Luka (Jovic) is a strong player who needs to play. I have a balanced team to start the match, and also great substitutions to resolve it.”

It won’t be an easy game for the Rossoneri but they will have to send a strong signal to Inter. A win would indeed mean a lot, also for the confidence of the whole group amid the rebuild this summer.
